Kabuliwala (2023) Bengali Movie: Suman Ghosh & Mithun Chakraborty's 2nd Collaboration

SVF Entertainment has unveiled the official poster for their upcoming film Kabuliwala on the grand occasion of Children’s Day, celebrated on November 14, 2023. The poster showcases Mithun Chakraborty, adorned with a turban, portraying the character of Rahmat, and Anumegha Kahali, who will be seen as Mini.

Directed by Suman Ghosh, with music composed by Indraadip Dasgupta, the film is a collaborative effort between Jio Studios and SVF Entertainment. The storyline, based on a tale by Rabindranath Tagore, revolves around Rahmat (Mithun Chakraborty), a middle-aged man from Afghanistan, and his heartwarming bond with a young girl from Kolkata named Mini. Abir Chatterjee and Sohini Sarkar will depict the roles of Mini's parents in this cinematic venture.

Both Suman Ghosh and Mithun Chakraborty, previous National Award winners, are joining forces for the second time, marking a reunion after more than 11 years since their collaboration on "Nobel Chor" in 2012. Mithun Chakraborty achieved success last year with his films Avijit Sen's Projapoti and Vivek Agnihotri's The Kashmir Files.

In the current year, Abir Chatterjee has been recently featured in Raktabeej. His upcoming projects include Badami Hyenar Kobole, "Deep Fridge," "Putul Nacher Itikotha," and "Joto Kando Kolkatatei."

Sohini Sarkar, who appeared in films like Durgo Rawhoshyo, Homestay Murders, Abar Bibaho Obhijaan, and Sampurna 2 this year, will be seen in "Kabaddi Kabaddi" and the sequel to the Srikanto web series titled Srikanto 2.

Rabindranath Tagore’s "Kabuliwala" has been adapted into a film five times to date, with Suman Ghosh's film marking the sixth adaptation of this heart-touching story. Director Tapan Sinha was the first to adapt it in 1957, with Chhabi Biswas playing Rahmat’s character, and the film earning a National Award. In 1961, director Hemen Gupta featured Balraj Sahni as Abdul Rehman Khan.

Bangladeshi director Kazi Hayat's 2006 adaptation starred Manna as Rahmat Sheikh, and Prarthona Fardin Dighi, who played Mini, won a National Award for Best Child Artist. Director Deb Medhekar adapted the story in 2018, with Danny Denzongpa in the role of Rehmat Khan.
