Raavan Bengali Movie (2022) Review: Story

The action thriller produced by Jeetz Filmworks was released in theatres on 29th April 2022 & premiered on Jalsha Movies on 26th January 2023.

The film starts with Raavan’s (Jeet) entry and the whistles as well as clappings started by the audience. Then we saw Professor Ram Mukherjee’s (also Jeet) story who was living a happy life with his family. Ram’s student Rai (Lahoma Bhattacharya) falls for him & their romantic chapter starts.

On the other side, Raavan brutally killed selected reputed people one by one which left the police department clueless. Sumaiya Jahan (Tanusree Chakraborty) was appointed to stop him.

Why did Ram become Raavan? Can Jahan stop him from killing other culprits? I won’t spoil it further by answering these questions, please visit your nearest theatre to enjoy this action drama.

Raavan is the one-man show of Jeet. He leaves no stone unturned to make this character a treat to watch. From delivering punch lines like ”Raavan khoma kore dite suru korle Ramayana abar notun kore likhte hobe” to jumping from the bridge he was just outstanding.

The movie marks the debut of Lahoma Bhattacharya. She has tried to give her best as Rai. But her dance as well as her acting in most of the scenes looked very ordinary.

Shataf Figar as Joint Commissioner Rajiv Sharma did a fantastic job. Tanusree Chakraborty as Sumaiya Jahan was quite impressive too.

It is the directorial debut of MN Raj and he deserves appreciation for all his efforts. Giving a bit more focus on the script as well as building a few characters other than Raavan would have made this movie more enjoyable.

He failed to utilize the experience & talented actors like Kharaj Mukherjee & Biswanath Basu. The comedy part in a few scenes looked forcefully added to the script.

There is no denying the fact that the Bengali film Industry was lacking hardcore action films which we generally see in South movies & Bollywood movies. The film is the evidence that shows us Jeet, the actor as well as the producer showed the courage to take the actions to the next level in Bengali cinema. Hopefully, we will see more hardcore action films in Bengali in the coming days.

Final words:

If you love commercial movies or hardcore action movies, Jeet starring Raavan,, which has an IMDb rating of 6.9, is worth watching.
