Raavan Movie Review: Story

The film starts with Raavan’s (Jeet) entry and the whistles as well as clappings started by audiences. Then we saw Professor Ram Mukherjee’s(also Jeet) story who was living a happy life with his family. Ram’s student Rai(Lahoma Bhattacharya) falls for him & their romantic chapter started.

On the other side, Raavan is brutally killing selected reputed people one by one which left the police department clueless & then Sumaiya Jahan(Tanusree Chakraborty) was appointed to stop him.

Why did Ram become Raavan? Can Jahan stop Raavan? I won’t spoil it further by answering these questions.

Raavan Movie Review: Performance & Analysis

Raavan is the one-man show of Jeet. He leaves no stone unturned to make this character a treat to watch.  From delivering punch lines like ”Raavan khoma kore dite suru korle Ramayana abar notun kore likhte hobe” to jumping from the bridge he was just outstanding.

Raavan marks the debut of Lahoma Bhattacharya. She has tried to give her best as Rai. But her dance as well as the acting in some scenes was not up to the mark.

Shataf Figar as Joint commissioner Rajiv Sharma did a fantastic job. Tanusree Chakraborty as Sumaiya Jahan was quite impressive.

Raavan is the directorial debut of MN Raj and he deserves appreciation for all his efforts. Giving a bit more focus on the script as well as building a few characters other than Raavan would have made this movie more enjoyable.

He failed to utilize the experience & talented actors like Kharaj Mukherjee & Biswanath Basu. The comedy part sometimes looked forcefully added into the script.

There is no denying the fact that Bengali film Industry was lacking hardcore action movies which we generally saw in South movies & sometime in Bollywood movies. Raavan is the evidence that shows us Jeet, the actor as well as the producer showed the courage to take the actions to the next level in Bengali cinema. Hopefully, we will see more hardcore action movies in Bengali in the coming days.

Raavan Movie Review: Final words

If you love commercial movies or hardcore action movies then Raavan is good for a one-time watch.
