Sampurna Bengali Web Series Review: Story
Sanyal family consists of Sampurna (Sohini Sarkar), her husband Piku(Prantik Chatterjee), her father-in-law (Rajat Ganguly) & mother-in-law (Laboni Sarkar), brother-in-law Raktim, aka Ruku (Anubhav Kanjilal).
A new member is going to be added to this family as Ruku is getting married to Nandini (Rajnandini Paul). But just when it was looking like the marriage will be called off Sampurna took the whole responsibility to convince her mother-in-law and she did.
The name Sampurna which means complete is apt for her as she is complete in every sense. Whether it is about looking after her in-laws or maintaining a good relationship with her husband and brother-in-law she does everything almost perfectly.
After the marriage, Nandini came to know the wild side of Ruku on their first night. Her behaviour came to the notice of Sampurna and she kept pushing her to know the truth. Nandini told that Ruku always becomes violent during intimate moments and forces himself on her without caring about her desire.
After coming to know the truth Sampurna informed her husband and requested him to have a word with his brother but he ignores her. Even she informed her in-laws about this but none were ready to believe her words.
Nandini was so scared of Ruku that even on the honeymoon she had to hide herself to feel safe from Ruku. This continues and she met with a serious accident during one such unbearable night.
That is when Sampurna decided to inform the police about the whole incident. Will Sampurna be able to save Nandini from the monster Ruku? Will Ruku get the punishment that he deserves? After watching Sampurna on Hoichoi you will get all these answers.
Sampurna Web Series Review: Performance & Analysis
Sohini Sarkar has beautifully portrayed the character of Sampurna. Like any other middle-class housewife, she was fighting a lone battle and she was well aware of the consequences. She gets support from her friend who helps married women who are the victims of domestic violence to become independent. Sohini Sarkar continues to win the hearts of audiences from Mandaar then Srikanto and now Sampurna.
Rajnandini Paul was also mind-blowing throughout the series. Her innocence and helplessness as a newly married woman were praiseworthy. Her expressions and dialogue delivery especially in emotional scenes were very impressive.
Anubhav Kanjilal as Ruku had two shades in his character. One is his innocent and good boy image to his family and the other one is monstrous in front of Nandini and he played the character quite well. Prantik Banerjee, Laboni Sarkar, and Rajat Ganguly also provided ably support with their respective characters.
Yes, the story of Sampurna was quite predictable but director Sayantan Ghosal deserves full credit for the brilliant execution. This is one of his best works in recent times after the web series Indu starring Ishaa Saha.
The climax was good as it sends a strong message to society about raising a voice against domestic violence. The music & background score in Sampurna by Amit-Ishaan deserves special mention.
Final Words:
Sampurna is a must-watch gripping family drama that stands out due to power-packed performances, music, and direction.
