Projapoti (2022) Bengali Movie Review: Story, Performances & Analysis

Director Avijit Sen's "Projapoti," released in theaters on December 23rd, 2022, tells the story of Joy (played by Dev), a hardworking middle-class man who has become one of the best wedding planners in Kolkata, with the full support of his loving and caring father, Gour (played by Mithun Chakraborty). Despite his father's desire for him to get married, Joy is hesitant, fearing that he may not be able to take care of his father with the arrival of a wife. However, things change when Gour meets his childhood friend Kusum (played by Mamata Shankar) and they fall in love.

Director Avijit Sen deserves credit for bringing the chemistry of Mithun Chakraborty and Mamata Shankar alive on the screen. It is a treat to watch these two versatile actors sharing the screen after 47 years and winning the hearts of audiences. Mithun Chakraborty's powerful performance is a delight to watch. Even at his age, his screen presence, dialogue delivery, expressions, and comic timing are outstanding. He will also feature in the upcoming movie "Baap."

Mamata Shankar is equally impressive as Kusum. Each of her scenes with Mithun Chakraborty is a treat to watch. The father-son relationship between Mithun Chakraborty and Dev is emotional and heartwarming.

Dev has been delivering good performances in recent years, including in movies like "Golondaaj," "Tonic," "Kishmish," and "Kacher Manush." His performance in "Projapoti" as wedding planner Joy is also impressive, but in most scenes with his father, Mithun Chakraborty steals the show.

Ambarish Bhattacharya and Koneenica Banerjee deliver convincing performances as Gour's son-in-law and daughter, respectively. However, the characters played by Koushani Mukherjee and Sweta Bhattacharya do not receive much focus. Kharaj Mukherjee, whose performance in "Kishmish" was highly impressive, is underutilized in "Projapoti."

Director Avijit Sen executes this family drama brilliantly. He focuses on the crucial elements that will make audiences emotional and engaged throughout the movie. The music directors Anupam Roy, Surojit Chatterjee, Rathijit Bhattacharjee, and cinematographer Gopi Bhagat deserve a mention for their good work.

In conclusion, "Projapoti" is an engaging romantic comedy-drama that is a must-watch, with brilliant performances from Dev, Mithun Chakraborty, and Mamata Shankar.
