Gora Web Series Review: Story

Gora(Ritwick Chakraborty), a private detective who considers himself a serial killer specialist, forgets the names of people, places, and cases but can solve serial killing cases.

He tries to remember the clues through his tuneless singing. His assistant and would-be brother-in-law Sarathi(Suhotra Mukhopadhyay) helps him solve the cases by reminding him of the names.

The back-to-back murders of three well-known writers with the nib of a pen, brought Inspector Tarapada Sarkhel(Abhijit Guha) to Gora’s house to get some solutions to solve the case.

Gora found some link to this case with the case of Supriya Guha(Payel De) and went in search of her with Sarathi. After they arrived home, they found a girl named Somlata(Ishaa Saha) waiting for Gora. She was afraid of the fact that she might kill someone during her sleepwalks. Initially, Gora had denied taking her case but later agreed and suggested a few areas to come out of this problem which worked. The rest of the story is about how Gora can find out the serial killer of those three writers.

Bengali Gora Web Series Review: Performance & Analysis

Talking about the performances we can say this was a solid performance by Ritwick Chakraborty in a challenging character like Gora, the private detective on his debut web series.

Suhotra Mukhopadhyay as Gora’s assistant Sarathi was convincing and not surprising as we have already seen him delivering some highly impressive performances in Indu, Mohomaya, Paap Season 2, Tansener Tanpura 2, etc.

Ishaa Saha once again was able to deliver top-notch performance in her short but effective role as Somlata. Golondaaj, Indu, Mafia, Detective, Boyfriends and Girlfriends are some of the movies and web series where you will find her top performances. She will also feature in upcoming projects like Karna Subarner Guptodhon, Mahananda, Kolkata Cholontika, Sahobase, Kacher Manush, etc.

Gora seems to miss the spark of director Sayantan Ghosal which we had seen in web series like Mouchaak & Indu in 2021. A person who failed to remember the name Supriya and keeps changing it to Sucharita, then Suparna, then Sunetra then Supriti, then Suchitra, & the name Sudeb to Bhudeb, then Joydeb, & then Mahadeb within minutes how he was supposed to be a private detective? Yes, those scenes might be a bit funny but not at all convincing.

Gora Hoichoi Review: Final Words:

If you are looking for another detective story with a few funny elements then Gora will be worthwhile. He is neither Byomkesh Bakshi nor Feluda, he is Gourab Sen AKA Gora. The music & background score by Binit Ranjan Moitra deserves a mention.
