Binodiini: Ekti Natir Upakhyan: Ram Kamal Mukherjee’s upcoming directorial venture

On November 9, 2023, Director Ram Kamal Mukherjee unveiled a new poster for his upcoming directorial venture, Binodini: Ekti Natir Upakhyan. This film is a tribute to the legendary theater actress Binodini Dasi, also known as Noti Binodini or Notee Binodini, and it explores her life within the context of 150 years of Bengali theater.

Rukmini Maitra is set to portray the character of Binodini Dasi and she looks stunning in the new poster. She has diligently prepared for the role through workshops with Sudipta Chakraborty. Additionally, she received training in Kathak under the guidance of Shouvik, a disciple of Pandit Birju Maharaj Ji.

Director Ram Kamal Mukherjee shared his thoughts on the project in a social media post, quoting Girish Chandra Ghosh, who passed away on February 8, 1912. Ghosh's final words were a poignant request to Ramkrishna: "Master, you have. Please destroy my worldly intoxication..."

Binodini: Ekti Natir Upakhyan is produced by Prateek Chakravorty and Dev Adhikari, with Priyanka Poddar contributing to the story, screenplay, and dialogues. The film's cinematography is entrusted to Soumik Halder, while Pronoy Dasgupta takes charge of editing. Soumyajit Sourendra is responsible for composing the music, and Tanmoyy Chakravorty oversees the art direction.

Kaushik Ganguly is set to portray the character of actor-writer-director Girish Chandra Ghosh, Binodini's mentor. Om Sahani will play Kumar Bahadur, Binodini's love interest, while Rahul Bose takes on the role of Ranga Babu, who stood by Binodini and later married her. Mir will bring the character of businessman Gurmukh Rai to life, fulfilling Binodini's dream of having a theater named after her.

This marks Rukmini Maitra's tenth film in her career, and in addition to Binodini: Ekti Natir Upakhyan, she will also be featured in Boomerang, Draupadi, and Tariq. Notably, this film represents the first collaboration between Rukmini Maitra and Director Ram Kamal Mukherjee. His previous directorial projects include Cakewalk, Rickshawala, Season's Greetings, Broken Frame, Shubho Bijoya, and Ek Dua.

The film's shooting commenced in February and concluded in March of the same year. While the teaser, trailer, and official release date are yet to be announced, anticipation surrounds this cinematic exploration of Binodini Dasi's extraordinary life.
