Haseen Dilruba (2021) Review: Story & Performances

Let us get introduced to the three lead characters of the murder mystery Haseen Dilruba, Rani (Taapsee Pannu), Rishabh Aka Rishu (Vikrant Messay), and Neel (Harshvardhan Rane).

In the very opening scene, we saw a man swimming in the river with only one hand. A cylinder explosion in the house causes the death of Rishu.

Inspector Kishore Rawat (Aditya Srivastava) started the investigation and through the initial observation, Rani was the prime suspect of the case.

Through the flashback we came to know that Rishu is an engineer by profession, having neither social life nor any excitement in life. He got married to Rani who is a cheerful modern girl, having multiple breakups in the past.

Just when their relationship was becoming off-colored, Rishu’s Cousin Neel arrived in their house to spend some days. Slowly Rani grows feeling for Neel. They had some moments, but things got changed as soon as Neel ran away. Rani understood her mistake and confessed to Rishu.

Was the cylinder explosion really an accident or a planned one? If it was planned then who killed Rishu? Is there any twist in it? To know the answers to these types of other questions you have to watch Haseen Dilruba on Netflix.

Director Vinil Mathew made his debut in Bollywood with the movie Hasee Toh Phasee starring Sidharth Malhotra, Parineeti Chopra, Adah Sharma, Sharat Saxena, and Manoj Joshi. Haseen Dilruba was certainly a good attempt at bringing a good mystery thriller to audiences.

Kanika Dhillon’s previous notable works as a scriptwriter are Manmarziyaan starring AbhishekBachchan, Tapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Kedarnath starring Late Sushant SinghRajput-Sara Ali Khan Pataudi, “Judgementall Hai Kya starring RajkumarRao-Kangana Ranaut, Netflix’s Guilty starring Kiara Advani & Gurfateh Pirzada.

Taapsee Pannu impresses yet again with an outstanding performance as Rani. VikrantMassey did not disappoint either. The way he changes his mood according to the different phases of his character was absolutely brilliant.

What is good about this film?

The mind-blowing performances from Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey, and an engaging first half are the highlights of this movie.

What is bad about this film?

It failed to keep the pace of the narrative same in the middle just the way it started.
