Rashmi Rocket Movie Review: Story
The movie starts with a scene where two policemen entered in girls hostel & forcefully entered the room of Rashmi Vira (Taapsee Pannu) and arrested her.
The incident happened when she was on the top of the game. A gender verification test, that showed a high testosterone level in her body, stopped her from participating in the female category.
We were taken to the flashback where we saw a young Rashmi getting encouraged by her father (Manoj Joshi) with a tagline “Haar jeet parinam hai, kosis hamara kaam hai”. Born & brought up in Bhuj, she was popularly known as “Rocket” for her lightning-speed sprint.
Her father’s death in an earthquake during a race in her school time stopped her from running further. Major Gagan Thakur (Priyanshu Painyuli) noticed her running and encouraged her to run professionally. He approached her social activist-mother Bhanuben (Supriya Pathak) to encourage her to participate in professional sprinting. She went on to win three consecutive medals for the country which left many people stunned.
Rashmi was banned by association from participating in any kind of National or International level’s games after the gender test. Lawyer Ishith (Abhishek Banerjee) approached Rashmi to fight for her in court. Then we entered a courtroom drama, no it’s the same as we have seen in the Chehre movie.
Rashmi Rocket Movie Review: Performance and Analysis
Watching Taapsee Pannu in a spectacular performance like this was not surprising. Whether you talk about her fitness, emotional scenes, or romantic scenes, she ticked all the boxes. She had previously delivered outstanding performances in women-centric films like Thappad, Pink, Naam Shabana, etc. Taapsee Pannu will also feature in upcoming movies like Looop Lapeta, Jana Gana Mana, Dobaaraa, Alien, Shabaash Mithu, Mishan Impossible, Blurr, etc.
Mirzapur 2 fame Priyanshu Painyuli was convincing as Major Gagan Thakur. Supriya Pathak & Manoj Joshi as Rashmi’s parents did a fantastic job. The rest of the cast including Varun Badola, Akash Khurana, Shweta Tripathi, Chirag Vora, Supriya Pilgaonkar also provided good support.
Abhishek Banerjee gets your attention from the very first scene, where he engaged in a fight with a reporter for telling unacceptable words on a live show against Rashmi.
Akarsh Khurana directed web series “Mismatched” starring Prajakta Koli, Rohit Saraf, Rannvijay Singha, Vidya Malvade, which was released in 2020, received mostly positive reviews from critics as well as audiences.
Rashmi Rocket Movie Review: Final Words
Rashmi Rocket has raised issues like the controversial gender verification test which has questioned a national level female athlete’s identity, internal politics in sports which society, as well as the responsible organizations, shouldn’t overlook.
Though it has not been officially declared by producers Rashmi Rocket’s story looked similar to Dutee Chand & Santhi Soundarajan in many ways.
