Director Aditi Roy's latest web series, Noshtoneer 2, the sequel to her previous project Noshtoneer, premiered on Hoichoi on July 26, 2024. The series features Sandipta Sen, Shoumo Banerjee, and Ushasi Ray in the lead roles, with Rooqma Ray, Anindya Chatterjee, Rahul Dev Bose, and Nabanita Malakar in supporting roles.
In Noshtoneer Season 1, Rishav (Shoumo Banerjee) was accused of a #MeToo allegation by his student Godhuli Basak (Angana Roy). After Godhuli's death, Aparna (Sandipta Sen) decided to file for divorce and seek justice for Godhuli.
Season 2 begins with Rishav's suicide attempt. Aparna, struggling with her emotions, decides to put the divorce on hold until Rishav recovers. Rishav experiences panic and anxiety attacks, suspecting someone is trying to kill him. Suroma (Ushasi Ray) arrives as a new tenant opposite Rishav and Aparna's house. Will Aparna forgive Rishav? Why did Rishav attempt suicide?
Ushasi Ray delivers a brilliant performance as Suroma in Noshtoneer 2. Despite the character's limited development, she makes the most of her screen time, particularly in the emotional scenes, which she portrays with conviction. Her recent work, including roles in Chhotolok, Kumudini Bhavan, and Petni, has been impressive.
Sandipta Sen as Aparna gives an adequate performance, though her role in this season lacks depth. Those familiar with her work in Bodhon, Bodhon 2, and Noshtoneer may find her character's lack of versatility disappointing. It would be refreshing to see her in more varied roles, like those in Shikarpur and Murder in the Hills.
Shoumo Banerjee provides a decent portrayal of Rishav, though his character suffers from weak writing this season. Rooqma Ray does well in her brief role, while Anindya Chatterjee's character lacks substance.
Noshtoneer 2 offers nothing new in terms of plot, with a story that feels predictable and similar to Season 1, with the main difference being the victim. The series' main issue lies in its weak plot.
Screenwriter Samragnee Bandyopadhyay and director Aditi Roy had ample opportunity to improve the script and execution, which could have enhanced the viewing experience. The ending was also unsatisfactory, suggesting that the makers might continue the story of Aparna and Suroma's fight against Rishav in Season 3.
