On February 5th, 2024, Director Atlee unveiled the title and teaser of Varun Dhawan’s first action film, titled Baby John, which is the official remake of Atlee’s blockbuster film Theri, starring Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Amy Jackson. Theri was Atlee’s 2nd directorial venture, marking Atlee and Vijay’s first collaboration, and the film was the 2nd Highest Grossing Tamil Film of 2016, following Rajinikanth's "Kabali."
Directed by A. Kaleeswaran, Baby John was tentatively titled VD18, marking Varun Dhawan’s 18th film and his first collaboration with Kaleeswaran, also known as Kalees. Keerthy Suresh & Wamiqa Gabbi are the female leads of this film, while Jackie Shroff & Rajpal Yadav were cast in supporting roles. This is also the first time we will see Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, & Wamiqa Gabbi together in a film.
The 1-minute teaser shows Varun Dhawan sitting on a chair surrounded by guns, with an intense look. Then, a shirtless Varun Dhawan is shown shooting and killing the bad guys. The background score is impressive, apart from Varun Dhawan’s appearance.
The film has been produced by Atlee and co-produced by Priya Atlee, Murad Khetani, and Jyoti Deshpande. S. Thaman is responsible for the music composition.
Varun Dhawan’s last 3 films—Raj Mehta’s Jugjugg Jeeyo, Amar Kaushik’s "Bhediya," Nitesh Tiwari’s Bawaal—received decent success at the box office. Wamiqa Gabbi was last seen in "Khufiya," and Keerthy Suresh was last seen in "Bhola Shankar."
Jackie Shroff was last seen in "Mast Mein Rehne Ka" and will also be featured in "Singham Again" & Baap. Rajpal Yadav was last seen in Apurva.
