Athhoi (2024) Bengali Movie: Anirban Bhattacharya will be seen in a negative role

The wait is finally over as, after more than 7 years, Arna Mukhopadhyay's directorial play Athoi, which is William Shakespeare's Othello adaptation staged by the Bengali theatre group Natadha, is set to enchant audiences on the big screen.

On December 6, 2023, SVF Entertainment shared glimpses from the Mahurat of their upcoming film, Athhoi. Directed by Arna Mukhopadhyay, the film stars Anirban Bhattacharya, Sohini Sarkar, and Arna Mukhopadhyay himself in the lead roles.

Similar to the play, Arna Mukhopadhyay will portray Athoi (Othello), while Anirban Bhattacharya will take on the role of Gogo (Iago). However, Turna Das, who played Diamona (Desdemona) in the play, will be replaced by Sohini Sarkar as Diyamona (Desdemona). Anirban Bhattacharya will be seen in a negative role.

After successful collaborations in Dawshom Awbotaar, Bogla Mama Jug Jug Jiyo, and Kabuliwala, SVF Entertainment, and Jio Studios are joining forces again for Athhoi. Anirban Bhattacharya is also the creative director, and Amit Chatterjee will compose the music for the film. The shooting is scheduled to start in December. Ditipriya Roy, Kaushik Bandyopadhyay, and Kaushik Chakraborty will play significant roles in the film.

Anirban Bhattacharya and Sohini Sarkar recently portrayed Byomkesh Bakshi and Satyabati in Srijit Mukherji's Durgo Rawhoshyo. Arna Mukhopadhyay was recently seen in Parambrata Chatterjee's Parnashavarir Shaap.

Sohini Sarkar will also feature in Srikanto 2 and Kaushik Ganguly's Kabaddi Kabaddi, while Anirban Bhattacharya is set to appear in director Soukarya Ghosal's upcoming film Pokkhirajer Dim and director Ashfaque Nipun's Mohanagar Season 3.
