Tiger 3 (2023) Movie Review: Salman Khan delivers a top-notch performance

Tiger 3, the highly anticipated action thriller starring Salman Khan, was finally released in theaters on 12th November 2023, in Hindi, Tamil & Telugu languages, coinciding with the grand celebration of Diwali. The film begins by delving into Zoya's (Katrina Kaif) backstory, illustrating her entry into the ISI with the assistance of ISI agent Aatish Rehman (Emraan Hashmi) following the demise of her father, Rehan Nazar (Aamir Bashir).

The new RAW Chief, Maithili Menon (Revathi), called Avinash Singh Rathore aka Tiger (Salman Khan), to retrieve former RAW agent and Tiger’s handler, Gopi Arya (Ranvir Shorey), a mission he successfully accomplishes. However, Aatish Rehman seizes Tiger and Zoya’s son, Junior, holding them hostage to secure a briefcase containing PAL codes of a missile from Istanbul. Can Tiger and Zoya successfully retrieve the briefcase? And what motivates Aatish Rehman to destroy Tiger?

The commendable aspects of Tiger 3 include Salman Khan's performance, the gripping action sequences, Emraan Hashmi's portrayal, and a captivating action scene featuring Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. While the introduction of new characters to the script seemed acceptable, the initial slow pace in the first half left something to be desired. Fortunately, the film gains momentum after the interval, and the superbly engaging second half contributes to an overall entertaining experience.

Tiger 3 caters to a mass audience and fulfills most of the expectations of an action thriller. Salman Khan's portrayal of Tiger stands out as the most impactful aspect of this action-packed film. However, the writing of his character appears rather ordinary, and this is one area I feel writer Aditya Chopra should consider enhancements if he is planning for Tiger 4.

Katrina Kaif impresses as Zoya, particularly in the action sequences. Emraan Hashmi delivers a convincing performance as Aatish Rehman, with his noteworthy contribution in the second half will keep you on the edge of your seats. Despite the character writing falling short, especially in the first half, Hashmi deserved more screen time.

The action directors, Sunil Rodrigues, Oh Sea Young, and Franz Spilhaus, deserve accolades for flawlessly executing each action sequence. The 12-minute action scene featuring both Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan is a visual highlight, while the 7-minute action scene depicting Tiger's entry is also well-executed.

Supporting actors Riddhi Dogra, Vishal Jethwa, and Kumud Mishra play their respective roles well. Although the VFX is satisfactory, there is room for improvement. Director Maneesh Sharma, making his first foray into action entertainment, falls short of fully realizing the script's potential as an action thriller.

Certain areas required more focus to enhance the film's visual appeal. Shridhar Raghavan, the screenplay writer with credits in films like War, Pathaan, Shiddat, and Apaharan, had opportunities for improvement in crafting a more compelling screenplay.

Tiger 3 box office collection: The film crosses 100 crores in 2 days

Tiger 3 has shattered Salman Khan's previous first-day collection records in India, amassing an impressive 43 crores. This surpasses his own benchmarks set by Bharat (42.3 crores), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (40.35 crores), Sultan (36.54 crores), Tiger Zinda Hai (34.10 crores), and Ek Tha Tiger (32.92 crores).

The film's box office performance continued to soar, reaching a total collection of Rs 101 crores after two days of business in India (43 crores on the first day and 58 crores on the second day). Notably, Tiger 3 is the third film to accomplish the remarkable feat of crossing 100 crores in just two days, following in the footsteps of director Siddharth Anand's Pathaan and director Atlee's Jawan.

Tiger 3 marks Salman Khan's 117th film in his illustrious career, including 29 cameo appearances. This film is his second lead role project in 2023, and when considering his cameo in Pathaan, it becomes his third project of the year. The film's performance is notably superior to his previous work in Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan.
