Pathaan (2023) Review: Story and Performances

The plot revolves around a former RAW agent Pathaan (Shah Rukh Khan) who is assigned the task by his senior Nandini (Dimple Kapadia) to stop another former RAW agent Jim (John Abraham). Jim leads the private terrorist organization Outfit X. He along with his team including Pakistani doctor Rubina Mohsin (Deepika Padukone) plans to attack the President of India & destroy India with the help of “Raktbeej”. Why does Jim want to destroy India? Will Pathaan be able to stop Jim and save India?

Director Siddharth Anand deserves a lot of appreciation for presenting SRK in a never before seen avatar. You will enjoy thoroughly watching SRK, his screen presence, dialogues, & actions. The success of Pathaan has certainly raised the bar of expectations from King Khan’s upcoming action thriller Jawan directed by Atlee and Director Siddharth Anand’s Fighter starring Hrithik Roshan.

John Abraham in the negative role of Jim was very impressive. His character deserved a bit more screen time and the backstory of his character would have made it more interesting. The last time he delivered an outstanding performance in a negative role was in Dhoom. It won’t be surprising to see him in more negative roles in the coming days.

Deepika Padukone as Rubina Mohsin did a fantastic job. She looks gorgeous and the action sequences she featured were amazing.  Salman Khan’s cameo as Tiger and the fight scenes featuring him and SRK was the best part of the movie.

Dimple Kapadia as Nandini, Head of JOCR (Joint Operation and Covert Research) & Ashutosh Rana as Colonel Sunil Luthra looked convincing.

Director Siddharth Anand and Producer Aditya Chopra’s successful collaboration continues in this spy thriller too and every time they are outperforming their previous box office records. They first collaborated in Salaam Namaste thereafter Ta Ra Rum Pum, Bachna Ae Haseeno, & War which means Pathaan is their 4th collaboration.

The VFX and the editing in a few scenes could have been far better. Also, the music by Vishal–Shekhar was not up to the mark. The chemistry between Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone was another area that should have been looked into.

Pathaan is precisely what a huge number of audiences have been waiting for for a long time from Bollywood-an action-packed commercial entertainer from King Khan. With a higher production value, no doubt it was able to fulfill audience expectations in most of the areas.

Top-notch performances from Shah Rukh Khan, John Abraham, Salman Khan, and Deepika Padukone, and storytelling by Siddharth Anand will keep you on the edge of your seat.
