Superstar Mahesh Babu Completes 44 Years in Telugu Film Industry

Today, November 29, 2023, marks Mahesh Babu’s 44th anniversary in the Telugu Film Industry (TFI). The actor made his first on-screen appearance as a child artist in Needa, which was released on November 29, 1979, and directed by Dasari Narayana Rao, starring Murali Mohan in the lead role. The superstar went on to feature in nine films as a child artist.

Mahesh Babu made his lead role debut with Raja Kumarudu in 1999 and has since appeared in 28 lead roles, including his upcoming film, Guntur Kaaram, tentatively titled SSMB28.

He is also set to appear in SS Rajamouli’s upcoming action-adventure, tentatively titled SSMB29. The actor has received numerous prestigious awards throughout his career, including CineMAA Awards, Filmfare Awards South, IIFA Utsavam, Nandi Awards, Santosham Film Awards, South Indian International Movie Awards, and Zee Cine Awards Telugu.

His first blockbuster, Okkadu, directed by Gunasekhar in 2003, was followed by successful movies like Athadu, Pokiri, Athidhi, and Khaleja until 2010. Pokiri completed a 100-day run in 200 theatres. His first 100-crore film (Rs 101 crores total, including Rs 80 crore in India and 21 crores at the Overseas Box Office) came in 2011 with Srinu Vaitla's Dookudu.

Pokiri became the highest-grossing Telugu film of 2006. "Dookudu" became the highest-grossing Telugu film of 2011 and the first film to be screened in Botswana. His latest appearance was in Parasuram Petla’s Sarkaru Vaari Paata, which became the third highest-grossing Telugu film of 2022.

He has collaborated thrice with directors like Trivikram Srinivas (Guntur Kaaram, Athadu, Khaleja) and Gunasekhar (Okkadu, Sainikudu, Arjun), and twice with Puri Jagannadh (Pokiri, Businessman), Srikanth Addala (Brahmotsavam, Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu), Srinu Vaitla (Aagadu, Dookudu), and Koratala Siva (Bharat Ane Nenu, Srimanthudu).

He collaborated once with directors like Parasuram Petla (Sarkaru Vaari Paata), Anil Ravipudi (Sarileru Neekevvaru), Sukumar (1: Nenokkadine), A. R. Murugadoss (Spyder), Vamshi Paidipally (Maharshi), Surender Reddy (Athidhi), K. Raghavendra Rao (Rajakumarudu), Y. V. S. Chowdary (Yuvaraju), B. Gopal (Vamsi), Krishna Vamsi (Murari), Jayanth C. Paranjee (Takkari Donga), Sobhan (Bobby), Teja (Nijam), S. J. Surya (Naani).

Sandeep Reddy Vanga approached Mahesh Babu for Animal movie, but due to date conflicts with his other commitments, Mahesh Babu decided not to feature in the film. Sandeep Reddy Vanga has expressed his desire to work with him in the near future.
