Animal (2023) Movie Trailer Review: The longest Indian film released in a single part in the last decade

The year 2023 is set to be remembered as one of the best for movie lovers, thanks to several notable reasons. Most notably, it marks the successful collaboration between Bollywood and South Indian Film Industry. We first witnessed the dynamic duo of Shah Rukh Khan and Atlee, and now, we eagerly anticipate the maiden collaboration between Ranbir Kapoor and Sandeep Reddy Vanga in the upcoming action thriller Animal.

The teaser sets high expectations and now the much-awaited trailer for this film was released on November 23, 2023, & garnered 43M views on YouTube in just 18 hours.

The three-and-a-half-minute trailer unveils Ranbir Kapoor in a never-before-seen avatar, all thanks to the creative prowess of writer-editor-director Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

The trailer kicks off with Ranbir Kapoor engaging in a unique game with his father, Anil Kapoor, where he expresses a desire to swap roles. In another intense scene, Anil Kapoor's character sustains a gunshot, vowing to avenge the assailant personally. The trailer unfolds with glimpses of Ranbir Kapoor's character brutally taking matters into his own hands. Anil Kapoor's character, in a poignant moment, refers to their son as a born criminal.

The narrative revolves around a father-son relationship etched in blood, depicting the son's unwavering commitment to protecting his father. Ranbir Kapoor plays the devoted son who idolizes his father as a superhero, while Anil Kapoor's character struggles to find time for his son.

The trailer brilliantly captures the film's dark shades, brutality, emotional depth, and madness, showcasing Ranbir Kapoor's character in a role that promises to captivate audiences in theaters this December. This transformation is anticipated to be a milestone in his career, potentially marking the biggest hit to date.

Having enjoyed Ranbir Kapoor's performances in films like Barfi and Wake Up Sid and appreciated his versatility in Rockstar, Tamasha, Raajneeti, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, and Sanju, we look forward to his role in Animal.

Bobby Deol's negative role also grabs attention, particularly in two scenes, especially the climactic moment where he rides on Ranbir Kapoor's back while lighting a cigarette. Anil Kapoor, portraying Ranbir Kapoor's father Balbir Singh, and Rashmika Mandanna, playing Ranbir's wife Geetanjali Singh, also make a strong impact in the trailer.

The film also marks the return of veterans Shakti Kapoor, Prem Chopra, and Suresh Oberoi, along with Indira Krishnan, to the big screen. Shakti Kapoor makes a comeback after nearly four years, Prem Chopra was last seen in Bunty aur Babli 2 in 2021, and Suresh Oberoi was last seen in Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi.

Indira Krishnan, absent since Hey Bro in 2015, plays a crucial role in this film. Babloo Prithiveeraj, with an extensive portfolio in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada films, makes his Bollywood debut, portraying a pivotal character.

Sandeep Reddy Vanga, known for "Arjun Reddy" and "Kabir Singh," returns after four years with Animal. This film marks his first solo venture into editing, having co-edited "Kabir Singh" alongside Aarif Sheikh. Cinematography is handled by Amit Roy, and the film is jointly produced by T-Series Films, Bhadrakali Pictures, and Cine1 Studios.

Ranbir Kapoor's only film released this year, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, garnered over Rs 220 crores at the box office, while Brahmastra: Part One: Shiva crossed Rs 430 crores, and Sanju remains his biggest hit with over Rs 500 crores. Rashmika Mandanna, featured in Mission Majnu and Varisu this year, will also appear in Pushpa 2: The Rule. Bobby Deol, last seen in Love Hostel last year, is set to appear in upcoming films like Kanguva and Hari Hara Veera Mallu.

Originally scheduled for release in August, Animal faced post-production delays, and it will finally hit theaters pan India on December 1, 2023, in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. With a runtime of 201 minutes, Animal stands as the longest Indian film released in a single part in the last decade.
