Manush (2023) Bengali Movie Review:

The story of this film revolves around NCB Officer Arjun Mukherjee (Jeet), a single father and an honest, dependable, and dedicated officer living with his daughter Mili (Ayanna Chatterjee). Drug Mafia Chhota Mannan (Jeetu Kamal) faces numerous challenges in his drug business due to Arjun Mukherjee's bravery and honesty. Arjun seizes drugs without regard for the business owner and fearlessly confronts anyone obstructing his duty.

The narrative unfolds two contrasting perspectives—revealing how Drug Mafia Mannan transforms into a common man named Namaji Mannan and what drives Narcotics Officer Arjun Mukherjee to become the drug lord Victor.

In the action thriller Manush, Jeet, and Jeetu Kamal, the action sequences excel, complemented by Sanjoy Somadder's brilliant storytelling. Director Sanjoy Somadder, in his first collaboration with the superstar, harnesses Jeet's potential effectively, presenting him as a convincing mass hero. Jeet's punchlines and action sequences are particularly noteworthy, evoking enthusiastic responses.

Jeetu Kamal, previously acclaimed in Anik Dutta’s Aparajito, leaves a lasting impression as Drug Mafia Chhota Mannan, overcoming limitations in his character's writing. Despite the character's inadequacies, the actor skillfully portrays diverse roles with precision.

Saurav Chakrabarti delivers a robust performance as Akbar, although the character's writing falls short. Bidya Sinha Mim as encounter specialist Mandira and Susmita Chatterjee as Kajol provide convincing portrayals. Sumit Ganguly, Somnath Kar, and Kaushik Chakraborty make cameo appearances.

Ravi Verma's action choreography is exceptional, complemented by Anbu Shelvan's praiseworthy background score. Prosenjit Chowdhury's cinematography is notable, but Malay Laha's editing could benefit from improvement. Manush was released in theatres on 24th November 2023 in Bengali and Hindi languages.

Jeet's commendable effort to sustain commercial cinema and elevate the Bengali Film Industry nationally is praiseworthy. Anticipated releases include Ankush Hazra’s Mirza, expected next year, and Jeetu Kamal’s Bengal Police Chapter 1: M16. Hopes are high for both films to be released in Hindi as well.

Jeet's last 3 movies, Raavan, Chengiz, and Manush: Child of Destiny, differ significantly from the kind of movies we watch in the Bengali Film Industry. However, for Hindi audiences, these films look pretty ordinary in terms of script, production value, dialogues, and execution.
