Aparajito (2022) Bengali Movie Review: Story, Performance & Analysis

Anik Dutta preferred to narrate the story through Aparajito(Jeetu Kamal). The first half is about his life at an ad agency where his interest grows in making films.

His first trip to London which took exactly 16 days to reach there was a memorable one for him. He listened to his mother’s request of taking his wife Bimala(Saayoni Ghosh) with him on the tour & this was approved by the agency as well.

The second half was more exciting as it involves the filmmaking part of Satyajit Ray & his journey to create the masterpiece Pather Padaboli. The scenes like when his wife decided to support him financially to start the movie, how his wife helped him in selecting the child artist & how during the shooting his wife’s inputs helped him get his perfect shot are truly fantastic.

There are so many scenes where Aparajito’s mannerisms and body language was like watching the legendary filmmaker on the screen. Jeetu Kamal deserves applause for delivering such a fine & brilliant performance.

Saayoni Ghosh as Aparajito’s wife Bimala delivered an outstanding performance here. We have seen there were many people behind Ray’s success but his wife’s contribution was huge. It is really good to see her experimenting with such highly challenging characters.

Anjana Basu, Paran Bandopadhyay, and Shamik Bandopadhyay provide good support in guest appearances. The rest of the cast also provided notable performances with their respective characters.

I think Aparajito’s most difficult part was the research. It is quite clear that writer and director Anik Dutta wanted to deliver the best to the audience about the legendary filmmaker so he didn’t leave any stone unturned. He should be highly appreciated for showing the courage to not only think about making a film on Satyajit Ray but also for executing it with utmost perfection.

Art director Ananda Addhya, composer Debajyoti Mishra, DOP Supratim Bhol, & co-writer Utsav Mukherjee deserve a mention for their notable works.

The movie’s initial response might have disappointed the makers a bit as the efforts behind Aparajito were unimaginable. But we are happy that after a couple of days the shows received very good responses.

Final Words:

Aparajito is like revisiting the black-and-white times through the lens of Satyajit Ray. The way the whole team has put together their efforts in creating a masterpiece like Aparajito deserves the love and support of audiences.
