Ae Watan Mere Watan: Kannan Iyer & Sara Ali Khan’s maiden collaboration
On the grand occasion of IFFI in Goa, amidst the esteemed presence of Karan Johar, Aparna Purohit, Sara Ali Khan, Apoorva Mehta, and Kannan Iyer, the motion poster for Sara Ali Khan’s upcoming patriotic thriller, "Ae Watan Mere Watan," was unveiled. The film is produced by Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta under their in-house production banner, Dharmatic Entertainment, and directed by Kannan Iyer.
This cinematic venture marks the inaugural collaboration between Kannan Iyer and Sara Ali Khan and is set to premiere on Prime Video soon. After more than a decade, Kannan Iyer returns to the director’s chair, following his directorial debut in 2013 with "Ek Thi Daayan." "Ae Watan Mere Watan" is only his second film, with his upcoming directorial project being "Lallan Sweets."
Sara Ali Khan, in the lead role, is making her eighth appearance and marks her eighth collaboration with Dharmatic Entertainment, following projects such as "Guilty," "Ajeeb Daastaans," "Searching for Sheela," "Meenakshi Sundareshwar," "Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives," "The Fame Game," and "Koffee with Karan."
In this film, Sara Ali Khan portrays the character of freedom fighter Usha Mehta, who played a pivotal role in India’s struggle for independence by organizing the Secret Congress Radio alongside her close associates. Karan Johar shared the captivating motion poster with the poignant quote, “Aazad aawazein, qaid nahi hoti,” as Sara Ali Khan is elegantly draped in a white cotton saree with a thin black border. The rest of the star cast & release date are yet to be confirmed officially.
Beyond "Ae Watan Mere Watan," Sara Ali Khan is set to grace the screen in upcoming films like "Metro... In Dino" and "Murder Mubarak".
