Avishapto (2023) Review: Story
The plot revolves around Aparna (Rittika Sen), who marries Arko (Gourab Chatterjee). However, their wedding is far from ordinary, as none of the groom's side attends, except for five family members. Prior to her marriage, Aparna's friend Anjana goes missing, leading Aparna and her friends to regularly visit the police station for updates. Will Aparna uncover the mystery at her in-laws' home and discover what happened to Anjana?
Avishapto, a web series released on Addatimes on June 16, 2023, is another attempt to deliver a thriller with a touch of family drama. Thematically, this series shares similarities with other shows like Indu on Hoichoi and Roktokorobi on ZEE5.
Unfortunately, Rittika Sen fails to make a lasting impression in her debut performance on OTT platforms. Despite having significant screen time, her expressions and dialogue delivery leaves much to be desired. She struggles to portray the character of a housewife and her quest for the missing girl fails to evoke any impact.
Gourab Chatterjee as Arko had nothing much to do and his chemistry with Rittika Sen did not receive sufficient attention.
The writing of dialogues and screenplay by Sourav Banerjee & Sudeep Das falls short, leaving viewers disappointed. One particularly poorly executed scene involves the discovery of a snake after the wedding.
Evidently, the series makers paid little attention to casting, writing, and execution. With the exception of the background score, which stands out, there is little to praise about this 8-episode web series.
After
Indu Season 2 and Hello!! Remember Me? Abhimanyu Mukherjee’s direction in
Avishapto is just forgetful. The background score by Sayan Ganguly remains the only positive aspect of this series.
