Puratawn Bengali Movie: Suman Ghosh & Rituparna Sengupta’s 2nd Collaboration

Renowned actress Sharmila Tagore, a recipient of two National Film Awards, is set to make her comeback to the Bengali film industry with the upcoming film Puratawn, directed by Suman Ghosh. This marks her return after a hiatus of over 14 years since her last appearance in a Bengali film, Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s "Antaheen."

Sharmila Tagore began her illustrious acting journey with Satyajit Ray’s "Apur Sansar" in 1959. After starring in eight consecutive Bengali films, she made her Bollywood debut in Shakti Samanta’s "Kashmir Ki Kali" in 1964. Prior to "Puratawn," she graced 23 Bengali films over her remarkable 64-year career, generating immense anticipation among audiences to witness the legendary actress on the big screen once again.

In Puratawn, Rituparna Sengupta and Indraneil Sengupta play pivotal roles in a storyline centered around a mother-daughter relationship. This film marks the debut collaboration between Suman Ghosh and Sharmila Tagore. It also signifies the second partnership between Rituparna Sengupta and Suman Ghosh since Basu Paribar in 2019. Notably, this will be the first time Sharmila Tagore shares screen space with Rituparna Sengupta.

Suman Ghosh’s previous directorial venture, Kabuliwala, featuring Mithun Chakraborty, received widespread acclaim upon its release in December last year, adding to the anticipation surrounding Puratawn.

Sharmila Tagore's most recent appearance was in Rahul V. Chittella’s "Gulmohar" last year, while Indraneil Sengupta was last seen in Bratya Basu’s Hubba. Rituparna Sengupta's latest outing was in Nirmal Chakraborty’s "Datta," and she is slated to appear in upcoming films such as Ajogya, Labangalata, Chhuti, Gangchil, Agnibina, Zokhom, and Sporsho.
