Raktabeej 2 Movie Review: Ankush Hazra Emerges as the Biggest Highlight

Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee's directorial action thriller film Raktabeej 2, starring Abir Chatterjee, Ankush Hazra, and Mimi Chakraborty in the lead roles, was released in theatres on 25th September 2025.

After successfully foiling a terror attack on President Animesh Chakraborty (Victor Banerjee), IG Pankaj Singha (Abir Chatterjee) of the Central Team, along with Burdwan SP Sanjukta Mitra (Mimi Chakraborty), embarks on a mission to dismantle the cross-border terrorist network led by Munir Alam (Ankush Hazra). The story explores their mission’s execution and the formidable hurdles that come their way.

The acclaimed director duo Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, known for gifting audiences several memorable family dramas, took on a new challenge when they stepped into the world of commercial filmmaking with Raktabeej

The film received a warm welcome and massive response from audiences, establishing their credibility in the genre. They further strengthened their position with last year’s blockbuster Bohurupi. Naturally, expectations soared with the announcement of Raktabeej 2. Adding to the excitement was the revelation that Ankush Hazra would play the main antagonist, setting the stage for a much-anticipated face-off with Abir Chatterjee.

Ankush Hazra emerges as the biggest highlight of Raktabeej 2. Ever since stepping into the mass-commercial space with Mirza Part 1, he has looked increasingly convincing in such roles. As Munir Alam, he makes full use of his screen time, delivering a performance that matches the character’s demands with precision.

Abir Chatterjee as Pankaj Singha commands attention, and much of the credit goes to the director duo for presenting his character with a massy treatment. While he impressed audiences in Raktabeej and Bohurupi, this time the impact feels stronger, largely due to the way his role has been designed and presented. Hopefully, he continues to get such mass-oriented roles more often in the coming days.

Koushani Mukherjee and Anashua Majumder looked convincing in their brief roles. However, Kanchan Mullick, Mimi Chakraborty, Satyam Bhattacharya, Victor Banerjee, and Seema Biswas were not given enough scope in the script to fully showcase their true potential.

Both Bonnie Chakraborty’s background score and Rajesh Kannan’s action choreography were fairly okayish, without offering anything particularly memorable. Pratip Mukhopadhyay beautifully captures several stunning visuals across the film, while Malay Laha’s editing feels subpar, with many unnecessary scenes that slowed the pace before the interval and could have been trimmed for a tighter narrative.

The comedy sequences failed to land and felt forcefully inserted. Similarly, the romantic subplot between Abir Chatterjee and Mimi Chakraborty appeared unnecessary and added little to the story’s progression. The love angle between Ankush Hazra and Koushani Mukherjee also felt misplaced, while the clash between the two countries’ police forces lacked conviction in its execution.

Zinia Sen, who penned the story, screenplay, and dialogues of Raktabeej 2, left scope for deeper character development, especially in building up the much-anticipated face-off between the protagonist and antagonist.

The director duo Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, despite high expectations, deliver only an average thriller. The film holds your attention primarily because of the strong performances and screen presence of Abir Chatterjee and Ankush Hazra. Compared to the original Raktabeej, the sequel falls short of expectations.
