On 17th May 2024, Surinder Films unveiled the official trailer of their upcoming romantic drama film Ajogya, directed by Kaushik Ganguly. The film stars industry superstars Prosenjit Chatterjee and Rituparna Sengupta in the lead roles. Silajit Majumder, Lily Chakraborty, Ambarish Bhattacharya, and Sudip Mukherjee will be seen in supporting roles.
The film marks the second collaboration between the trio Prosenjit Chatterjee, Rituparna Sengupta, and Kaushik Ganguly, following Drishtikone in 2018. Prosenjit Chatterjee and Rituparna Sengupta first collaborated in Director Bhijoy Bhaskar's Nagpanchami in 1994, and after 30 years, they are working together on their 50th collaboration.
The trailer begins with a conversation between Raktim (Silajit Majumder) and Prosen (Prosenjit Chatterjee), where the latter tries to explain how the usage of “You” changes between two people over time. Raktim loses his job and becomes a househusband, while his wife (Rituparna Sengupta) runs the family. He struggles to manage all the household chores, including accompanying their only daughter to school. Over time, Raktim becomes frustrated and starts drinking at a bar, where he meets Prosen. Impressed by Prosen, they become friends.
The trailer hints that Prosen and Raktim’s wife were friends during their childhood and, due to some unknown events, they got separated. Questions arise: Why did Prosen become Raktim’s friend? Does Prosen have any bad intentions towards Raktim?
The nearly three-minute trailer is well-designed and impressively edited keeping the major plot elements a suspense. Prosenjit Chatterjee’s on-screen presence, his character’s look, and expressions are the major highlights. Kaushik Ganguly’s dialogues deserve a special mention, especially Lily Chakraborty’s line to her son, “A mother is her child’s most accurate astrologer,” which is praiseworthy.
Silajit Majumder as Raktim looks convincing in the trailer and particularly impresses in the emotional scenes. Rituparna Sengupta does not have many dialogues and has less screen presence in the trailer. Lily Chakraborty portrays Prosenjit Chatterjee’s mother. Ambarish Bhattacharya and Sudip Mukherjee also appear in the trailer.
Indraadip Dasgupta’s background score and the music composition by Indraadip Dasgupta, Anupam Roy, and Ranajoy Bhattacharjee are top-notch. Ajogya will be released in theaters on 7th June 2024, clashing with Sauvik Kundu’s Boomerang.
The story and screenplay of Ajogya have been written by Kaushik Ganguly. Ujaan Ganguly is the creative director, Gopi Bhagat is responsible for the cinematography, and Subhajit Singha has edited the film.
