On 31st March 2024, Ankush Hazra Motion Pictures unveiled the official trailer of their upcoming action thriller, Mirza Part 1 Joker. Directed by debutant Sumeet-Saahil, the film stars Ankush Hazra, Oindrila Sen, Kaushik Ganguly, Rishi Kaushik, Priya Mondal, Shoaib Kabeer, Shantilal Mukherjee, Sankar Debnath, Rajat Ganguly, Krishnendu Chakraborty, Sumit Ganguly, Jammy Banerjee, and Beas Dhar. It will be released in theatres on 10th April 2024 on the grand occasion of Eid.
The 3-minute trailer starts with Ankush Hazra, who portrays the titular character, engaging in action sequences and delivering punchlines. Then comes Inspector Kaustav Sen (Rishi Kaushik), assigned by Rajat Ganguly to clean the city by removing the gangsters.
Next, the main antagonist Sultan (Kaushik Ganguly) is introduced, ruling the underworld and making people understand, that "Sultan means Power." He is ruthless, as evidenced by his brutal act of cutting off a man's hand at a dining table and asking, “Noon Kom?”. When the police seize his loaded trucks, he tells Azhar (Shoaib Kabeer), “Abar jodi amar mal kothao atkay, tahole tor ghorer mal amar bichhanay thakbe”. Sultan's love interest, Muskan (Oindrila Sen), is then shown fighting fearlessly.
The trailer of Mirza Part 1: Joker does not reveal much about the story. Kaushik Ganguly’s one-liners and the action sequences of Ankush Hazra & Oindrila Sen are the most attention-grabbing parts. The face-off between Mirza and Sultan promises to be another interesting aspect of the film. A cameo at the end hints at a potential clash between Mirza and him in Mirza Part 2, though the identity of the character remains undisclosed by the makers.
Arnab Bhaumik wrote the story of Mirza Part 1: Joker, while Animesh Ghorui handled the cinematography and RP Yadav served as the Action Director. Aneek Dhar and Ishan Mitra composed the music. Ishan Mitra also provided the background score, and Sanglap Bhaumik edited the film.
Let’s appreciate the effort Ankush Hazra has put into making this film and promoting it. Initially, there were several questions about the film’s completion when production paused due to internal differences with Nexgen Ventures. The makers released a character introduction teaser on 14th February 2024 and confirmed the release date on December 12, 2023. The announcement teaser was unveiled on 8th September 2022.
Ankush Hazra has achieved something unprecedented in the Bengali Film Industry. Besides Ankush Hazra's in-house production, six other production houses released the trailer of this film on their YouTube channels. This collaborative effort is essential given the current state of box office collections for Bengali films. Often, Bollywood and South Indian films outperform Bengali films in West Bengal. If production houses begin promoting other Bengali films, we can anticipate larger audiences in theatres in the future. While this won't happen overnight and challenges will arise, prioritizing the progress of the Bengali film industry is entirely feasible.
