On October 18, 2023, the sneak peek or teaser for Vijay Deverakonda's upcoming film, Family Star, was unveiled. Directed by Parasuram, the movie is set to hit theaters on Sankranthi 2024, potentially competing with Venkatesh starring action thriller Saindhav. Produced by Raju-Shirish under Sri Venkateswara Creations, the film features Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur in the lead roles.
Tentatively titled #VD13, Family Star marks Parasuram's 8th directorial venture and his second collaboration with Vijay Deverakonda since "Geetha Govindam" in 2018. The 1-minute and 10-second teaser presents the film as a family drama and portrays Vijay Deverakonda as a family-oriented individual who believes that men can also take care of their homes and families. The teaser also features an action sequence, suggesting that the movie may include some action scenes. Mrunal Thakur, who plays Deverakonda's wife, makes a brief appearance in the teaser.
Gopisundar, known for composing music for films like Geetha Govindam, Pulimurugan, Majili, and Charlie, will be responsible for the film's music. KU Mohanan will handle the cinematography, and Marthand K Venkatesh will be in charge of the editing, with Vasu Varma serving as the creative producer.
Writer and director Parasuram returns to the director's chair after a hiatus of over 2 years, following his last film, Sarkaru Vaari Paata, starring Mahesh Babu and Keerthi Suresh, released in 2022. Sarkaru Vaari Paata grossed Rs 230 crores worldwide, making it the second highest-grossing Telugu film of 2022, behind SS Rajamouli's RRR.
On November 7, 2023, Parasuram will celebrate 15 years in the industry as a director, as he made his directorial debut in 2008 with Yuvatha, starring Nikhil Siddhartha and Aksha.
Vijay Deverakonda, known for his roles in Arjun Reddy and Geetha Govindam, had only one release this year, Kushi, directed by Shiva Nirvana and co-starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The film performed decently at the box office, collecting Rs 71 crores. Deverakonda was pleased with the audience's response and donated Rs 1 crore from the earnings to 100 families.
In the previous year, Vijay Deverakonda made his Bollywood debut with the action thriller Liger, directed and written by Puri Jagannadh. However, the film failed to make a significant impact at the box office. Consequently, there are high expectations for his performance in a family drama this time, directed by Parasuram.
