Gold (2022) Malayalam Movie Review: Story, Performances & Analysis

A mobile shop owner Joshy (Prithviraj Sukumaran) came to know from his mother (Mallika Sukumaran) that someone has parked a Bolero diagonally in front of their house which has blocked a wide space of the house.

Joshy’s new car will arrive but knowing that he won’t be able to bring the car inside the compound, he went to the police to raise a complaint to move the Bolero away from his compound.

The Bolero was full of 200 speakers and Joshy found the necessity of a speaker when his own broke down. He picks one from the bolero and went inside to start using it. He found a block of gold in it instead of a speaker and he became greedy to get all the gold available in the Bolero. Will he be able to get all the gold?

Gold is Alphonse Puthren’s 4th directorial movie but it failed to live up to expectations. The reasons for the expectations are obviously the success of his previous 3 directorial movies as well as the presence of stars like Prithviraj and Nayanthara.

I was wondering what impressed Nayanthara for choosing such a character that you will fail to realize her presence on the screen. Prithviraj looks okay in a few scenes but none of the scenes featuring him will make you laugh.

If you have seen Alphonse Puthren’s previous 3 directorial movies Neram, Aviyal, & Premam Nivin Pauly was the male lead in all those 3 movies. His performances in all those movies were highly appreciated along with Alphonse Puthren’s storytelling.

But in the Gold movie, barring the last 30 minutes, the slow pace narrative might disappoint you. The editing by Alphonse Puthren also doesn’t look good in most of the scenes. The story lacks uniqueness and sufficient elements to keep you engaged throughout the movie.

The music composition by Rajesh Murugesan & cinematography by Anend C. Chandran & Viswajith Odukkathil were okay.

Gold is the 5th movie of Prithviraj in 2022 after Bro Daddy, Jana Gana Mana, Kaduva, & Theerppu. He will also feature in upcoming movies like Kaapa, Aadujeevitham, Khalifa, Vilayath Buddha, & Kaaliyan.

It is the 4th movie of Nayanthara in 2022 after Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal, O2, & Godfather. She will be featured in upcoming projects like Connect, Jawan, Iraivan, Lady Superstar 75, & NT-81.

Final Words:

Barring the last 30 minutes, there is nothing much this Alphonse Puthren directorial comedy-drama can offer you.
