Telugu Godfather (2022) Movie Review: Story, Performances & Analysis

The story of Godfather revolves around Brahma (Chiranjeevi), a powerful politician who is beloved by the public and will go to any lengths to serve the people of the state. When the current Chief Minister PKR (Sarvadaman D. Banerjee) passes away, the public and politicians alike begin to speculate about who will be the next CM.

Investigative journalist Govardhan (Puri Jagannadh) releases a list of potential candidates, including Satya (Nayanthara), PKR's daughter, and Jai (Satyadev), Satya's husband, who both have high chances of becoming the next CM. Home Minister Narayana Verma (Murali Sharma) and Brahma are also in the running. Govardhan calls Brahma the most dangerous and mysterious candidate, setting the stage for an intense political battle.

Chiranjeevi's last two movies, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy and Acharya, did not perform well at the box office, so expectations for Godfather are high. The film has been made with mass audiences in mind, keeping Chiranjeevi's star power in focus. His outstanding performance is the highlight of the movie, as he delivers flawless dialogue and action sequences with equal energy.

Satyadev Kancharana delivers a brilliant performance as Jaidev, the film's antagonist. Nayanthara's performance as Sathyapriya Jaidev could have been better with more focus on her character. Salman Khan's cameo as Masoom Bhai provides fantastic entertainment, especially in fight sequences.

Murali Sharma as Narayana Verma, Samuthirakani as ACP Raghuram, Puri Jagannadh as Govardhan, and Sunil as Koti all deliver decent performances. Thaman S's music, Marthand K. Venkatesh's editing, and Nirav Shah's cinematography are also noteworthy.

The film's pacing can be slow at times, but Director Mohan Raja's storytelling is engaging. While the film draws inspiration from Lucifer, the highest-grossing Malayalam film to date, Raja adds his own elements to keep the audience engaged.

Despite its highlights, Godfather suffers from poor writing, with a predictable story lacking in twists. Unlike Lucifer, which had almost no dull moments, Godfather's narrative fails to deliver a gripping drama.

In conclusion, Godfather is a political thriller made for mass audiences. Its highlights include Chiranjeevi's performance, Salman Khan's cameo, Satyadev and Nayanthara's acting, and the action sequences. However, its predictable storyline and lack of twists may leave viewers wanting more.
