Monica O My Darling (2022) Hindi Movie Review: Story, Performances & Analysis

On the occasion of Unicorn’s 50th Anniversary, CEO Mr. Satyanarayan Adhikari promotes robotics expert Jayant Arkhedkar (Rajkummar Rao) and this decision left many of the employees surprised. During the event Safety Officer, Faridi Baig (Faisal Rashid) who has been suspended for the unfortunate death of Supervisor Dev Prakash raised questions about Dev Prakash’s death as he suspects this was a murder and not an accident.

Jayant Arkhedkar who is the fiancé of Satyanarayan’s daughter Nikki Adhikari (Akansha Ranjan Kapoor) was very happy to be promoted. But his happiness did not last long when he came to know that the secretary & hottest employee Monica Machado (Huma Qureshi) with whom he was having a physical affair was pregnant with his child.

She started blackmailing him and while he was thinking about how to come out of this he learned that she is also blackmailing Satyanarayan’s son Nishikant (Sikandar Kher) and the company’s CFO Arvind Manivannan(Bagavathi Perumal). Finding no other way to come out of this they planned to kill Monica.

The killer killed Nishikant and Arvind and later Monica was also murdered. The killer also tried to kill Jayant but he managed to escape. ACP Naidu (Radhika Apte) started the investigation to find out the killer and the mystery behind these killings. Will she be able to find out the killer of Nishikant, Arvind, & Monica?

After delivering back-to-back solid performances in Bell Bottom, Valimai, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Maharani & Double XL, Huma Qureshi carries her good form in Monica O My Darling too & she as Monica is absolutely a treat to watch. She will also feature in upcoming movies like Tarla which is based on the life of Indian food writer Tarla Dalal & in Pooja Meri Jaan.

Rajkummar Rao is just fabulous in this kind of role which he has done quite a few times earlier too. Apart from Monica’s character, his character was also written with care and he delivered what the audience expected from him. Hopefully, we will see him in more exciting roles for his upcoming movies Bheed & Mr. and Mrs. Mahi.

Sikandar Kher impresses once again with a noteworthy performance. His recent notable works include Sooryavanshi & Aarya & hopefully, he will deliver better performances in upcoming movies like Monkey Man, & Dukaan.

For Radhika Apte, this was a completely different kind of character and she tried well though at times her comic scenes looked irrelevant to the script. Sukant Goel looks good in a negative role.

Akansha Ranjan Kapoor, Faisal Rashid, Bagavathi Perumal, & Zayn Marie Khan supported well with their respective characters. Radhika Madan, Abhimanyu Dassani, & Gulshan Devaiah appeared for cameos.

Shiva Rindani who was one of the known faces among villains during 1980s to 2000s Bollywood movies & appeared in more than 100 films, is back after 20 years. He did a good job as Tamang Rana.

Director Vasan Bala does a brilliant job in executing a neo-noir crime thriller that kept the suspense alive till the end. Though the story looks predictable in the very first scene, with the progress & new twists it will excite you more.

The music by Achint Thakkar is a plus point that has given a more thrilling experience. Editor Atanu Mukherjee & Cinematographers Swapnil S Sonawane & Sukesh Viswanath perfectly made this thriller more enjoyable.

Final Words:

Monica O My Darling is a neo-noir crime thriller on Netflix that will be worth your time for the brilliant direction of Vasan Bala & Achint Thakkar’s music. I will say to Director Vasan Bala “yeh ek thriller kafi nehi hai”, please bring some more.
