Bell Bottom Movie Review: Story
To put it in the simplest form, the story is about the rescue of 210
hostages of the hijacked plane that landed in Amritsar and later moved to
Lahore. The incident occurred in 1984 under the leadership of India’s then
Prime Minister Indira Gandhi(Lara Dutta).
Analyst Anshul Malhotra (Kumar) lives with his wife Radhika (Vaani Kapoor)
and mother Raavi (Dolly Ahluwalia). Getting the flashback of Anshul’s story we came to know that he was
chosen by R&AW chief N.F. Suntook (Adil Hussain)
to work as an undercover agent. He was sharp, fit, and proficient in
multiple languages. He was called “Bell Bottom” to keep his real identity a secret to others.
After a brief discussion with him and the team, Indira Gandhi was not impressed with him due to his assumption-based words.
But, later she realized his words to be true and recalled him and ordered
him to execute his plan secretly. The rest of the story is about how Bell
Bottom started executing the plan. Was he successful in saving the hostages?
Had India finally negotiated with hijackers?
Bell Bottom Movie Review: Performance & Analysis
Bell Bottom has reminded us again that Khiladi Akshay Kumar is still
unmatched while we are talking about spy thrillers in Bollywood. You will
fail to recognize that the man is still so energetic, fit, and brilliant in
delivering top-class performances at this age too.
Makeup artist Vikram Gaikwad deserved all the credit for Lara Dutta’s
transformation. She was the only other attraction of Bell Bottom. Vaani Kapoor, Huma Qureshi, Adil Hussain, Dolly Ahluwalia also added
valuable contributions with their respective characters.
Editing and music are the other satisfactory areas of this movie. The
predictable plot and the climax were unsatisfactory parts of the
movie.
Director Ranjit Tiwari made his Bollywood debut with
FarhanAkhtar’s movie “Lucknow Central”. “Bell Bottom” certainly did not live up to the expectations in a few areas
but overall it is a one-time worth watching.
Box office collection of Bell Bottom movie:
Till 28th August 2021, the movie has earned a gross worldwide
collection of 30.30 crores.
