The story of Kacher Manush revolves around Sudarshan, an LIC agent played by Prosenjit Chatterjee, and Kuntol, an unemployed man portrayed by Dev. Both Sudarshan and Kuntol have their own financial problems, with Kuntol needing money for his mother's paralysis treatment and Sudarshan needing money for his sister Aalo's medical care.
The two meet at a point where they are considering suicide, but Sudarshan offers Kuntol a deal that could benefit both of them. If Kuntol buys an insurance policy from Sudarshan and they can make Kuntol's death look like an accident, the nominee will receive a hefty amount of Rs. 10 lakhs. In exchange, if Kuntol makes Sudarshan the nominee, Sudarshan will use the money for his sister's treatment as well as Kuntol's mother's treatment. Thus, the film explores the concept that someone's death could save another person's life.
Kuntol agrees to the deal, and they start planning for his accidental death. However, Kuntol falls for Aalo, Sudarshan's sister, who has a profound impact on changing Kuntol's perspective, and he changes his mind about suicide. The film then explores how Kuntol and Sudarshan will arrange money for their respective treatments.
The biggest challenge for director Pathikrit Basu in making Kacher Manush was directing a movie with two superstars of the industry and meeting the audience's expectations, especially with a Durga Puja release. Nonetheless, the film mainly focused on the concept of life and death, making it worth watching.
Dev and Prosenjit Chatterjee's performances were brilliant, holding the audience's attention throughout the movie. The engaging first half included dark comedy and a few twists, adding to the narrative's appeal. However, as the story progressed, the narrative looked a bit disjointed, with editing and Susmita Chatterjee's character being areas that could have been improved.
Ishaa Saha, who played Aalo, also delivered a brilliant performance and had great chemistry with Dev, making their romantic plot another plus point of the movie. After Kishmish, Nilayan Chatterjee's music has been highly appreciated by audiences once again.
Kacher Manush, which has an IMDb rating of 7, stands out due to the superb dark comedy in the first half, Pathikrit Basu's direction, and the solid performances of Dev, Prosenjit Chatterjee, and Ishaa Saha.
