Bringing these two versatile performers together for Partner, David Dhawan created a magical on-screen combination, and his experiment turned out to be a resounding success. David Dhawan's directorial romantic comedy Partner, starring Govinda, Salman Khan, Lara Dutta, and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles, was released in theatres on 20 July 2007.
The music for the film was composed by Sajid–Wajid, marking their second collaboration with director David Dhawan after Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. Partner marked the 38th directorial venture of David Dhawan. It also marked his eighth collaboration with Salman Khan and his 15th collaboration with Govinda.

Partner was written by David Dhawan, Yunus Sajawal, and Sanjay Chhel, with the screenplay by the trio and dialogues penned by Sanjay Chhel. The cinematography was handled by Johny Lal, marking his second collaboration with director David Dhawan after Shaadi No. 1.
Made on a budget of approximately ₹28 crore, the film earned ₹60.04 crore nett at the Indian box office, becoming a commercial success and the fourth highest-grossing Hindi film of 2007. The film was produced by Sohail Khan and Parag Sanghvi under the banners of K Sera Sera and Sohail Khan Productions, and was distributed by Eros International.
The background score was composed by Salim–Sulaiman, marking their third collaboration with director David Dhawan after Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya.

The story of Partner was inspired by the 2005 American romantic comedy Hitch, directed by Andy Tennant and starring Will Smith, Eva Mendes, Kevin James, Amber Valletta, Michael Rapaport, and Adam Arkin.
