Akshay Kumar, fondly known as the Khiladi of Bollywood, began his acting journey with a brief appearance as a karate instructor in Mahesh Bhatt’s 1987 film Aaj.
He made his debut as a leading man in 1991 with Saugandh, directed by Raj Sippy, co-starring Raakhee and Shantipriya. The film featured Pankaj Dheer and Mukesh Khanna in pivotal roles and marked Akshay’s first collaboration with both director Raj Sippy and actress Shantipriya.
Made on a budget of ₹1.54 crore, the film Saugandh collected ₹2.70 crore worldwide and was declared an average grosser.
In 1991, he also starred in Dancer, directed by Kishore Vyas, opposite Mohini (Mahalakshmi Sreenivasan), which marked his first collaboration with both the actress and the director.
Made on a budget of ₹1.90 crore, the film Dancer collected ₹2.10 crore worldwide and was declared a flop.
Over the last 38 years, Akshay Kumar has appeared in around 160 films, including cameos, with his next release being Welcome to the Jungle directed by Ahmed Khan. Akshay Kumar will be also featured in director Priyadarshan's next 2 films: Bhooth Bangla and Haiwaan
