AKA Series Trailer Review: Afran Nisho and Vicky Zahed Promise a Gripping Thriller

On 25th August 2025, Hoichoi unveiled the official trailer of their upcoming series AKA. Directed by Vicky Zahed, the series stars Afran Nisho, Masuma Rahman Nabila, and Imtiaz Barshon in the lead roles. The web series AKA will release on Hoichoi on 4th September 2025.

The 2-minute trailer of AKA teases a gripping thriller. It begins with glimpses of the mysterious serial killer, AKA, who eliminated criminals one after another during 1998–99 before vanishing without a trace. Years later, we meet Abul Kalam Azad (Afran Nisho), a failed rockstar aspirant who discovers another kind of “art” — killing. Believing that the power to take life is as significant as the power to create, he begins a brutal spree, making people wonder if the infamous AKA has returned.

Alongside this dark transformation, his tender bond with Masuma Rahman Nabila adds emotional weight — but can love survive such horror? Is Azad really the true AKA, or just a shadow of him? The chase intensifies when Imtiaz Barshon is tasked with nabbing the killer — but will justice prevail before more lives are lost?

In the trailer of AKA, Afran Nisho once again stands out with a powerful screen presence. If the writing holds the depth it promises, his performance could well become one of the most remarkable highlights when the series premieres.

Director Vicky Zahed and Afran Nisho’s collaborations have been the talk of cine-lovers ever since the Punorjonmo Universe, which remains one of the finest achievements for both the filmmaker and the actor.

Following the massive success of Surongo, Afran Nisho seems more conscious in choosing strong scripts. This year alone, he impressed audiences with Daagi and made a notable cameo in Shakib Khan’s Taandob.

The series AKA is entirely helmed by Vicky Zahed, who has written the story, screenplay, and dialogue. Bidrohi Dipon handles the cinematography, while Aurnob Hasnat manages both editing and the music and background score.

Hoichoi Bangladesh has steadily built excitement around AKA. The platform unveiled the first-look posters on 10th August 2025, followed by a glimpse of behind-the-scenes moments on 19th August. On 23rd August, another poster was released, this time featuring Masuma Rahman Nabila and Afran Nisho in two strikingly different looks.

AKA marks director Vicky Zahed’s second collaboration with Hoichoi after Rumi, which starred Chanchal Chowdhury. Widely regarded as one of Bangladesh’s most talented filmmakers, Vicky Zahed has delivered acclaimed works like Redrum, Punorjonmo, Punorjonmo 2, Punorjonmo 3, and Punorjonmo: Antim Porbo.

With such a track record, the bar of expectation is always high for his projects. While last year’s projects, Ararat and Tikit, fell short of the mark, AKA looks promising and could well be the next big blockbuster in his career, especially with Afran Nisho leading the charge.
