War 2 Teaser Review: Hrithik Roshan-NTR Jr Face-Off Steals the Spotlight

On the momentous occasion of N.T. Rama Rao Jr.'s birthday on May 20th, Yash Raj Films officially unveiled the highly anticipated teaser of their upcoming spy thriller War 2. War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji, is the sequel to Siddharth Anand’s blockbuster action thriller War, which starred Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff, Vaani Kapoor, and Ashutosh Rana.

War 2 features Hrithik Roshan, N.T. Rama Rao Jr. and Kiara Advani in the lead roles, and is slated for a theatrical release on 14th August 2025 in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil languages. Brimming with gripping action, the 90-second teaser showcases Hrithik Roshan and N.T. Rama Rao Jr. in high-octane sequences — but it’s their fiery face-off that’s sure to set the big screen ablaze and pull audiences into theatres.

War 2 marks the sixth installment in YRF’s Spy Universe, following Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, and Tiger 3. Ayan Mukerji becomes the latest addition to the league of directors in the YRF Spy Universe, following Kabir Khan (Ek Tha Tiger), Ali Abbas Zafar (Tiger Zinda Hai), Siddharth Anand (War and Pathaan), and Maneesh Sharma (Tiger 3).

Made on an estimated budget of around ₹250 crores, War 2 marks the Bollywood debut of N.T. Rama Rao Jr. The film marks Kiara Advani's maiden collaboration with Hrithik Roshan, N.T. Rama Rao Jr. The film also marks director Ayan Mukerji's maiden collaboration with Hrithik Roshan, N.T. Rama Rao Jr, and Kiara Advani.

While the background score in the teaser is quite impressive, the VFX falls short of expectations. Kiara Advani makes a brief appearance in a swimsuit in one of the scenes. The film is backed by Aditya Chopra, with the story by Shridhar Raghavan, screenplay by Abbas Tyrewala, and dialogues also penned by Abbas Tyrewala.

Fans have voiced concerns through social media about Ayan Mukerji directing War 2, given his limited experience with action or spy thrillers. Although Brahmastra Part One: Shiva was decent, it’s hard to ignore the disappointment from Tiger 3, which was Maneesh Sharma’s first spy thriller.

Let's hope Ayan Mukerji rises to the challenge and delivers a blockbuster! The striking resemblance between Hrithik Roshan’s axe-fight in the War 2 teaser and Thalapathy Vijay’s intro scene in Bairavaa hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans.

Both action pieces were choreographed by Anal Arasu, leading many to believe this might not be a mere coincidence. Whether it’s a deliberate creative homage or a smart marketing tactic to stir buzz across regional and national fan bases, the comparison is certainly working in favor of the film’s pre-release momentum.
