Aamar Boss Movie Review: Raakhee Gulzar's Return Anchors the Film

Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee's directorial family drama film Aamar Boss starring Raakhee Gulzar, Shiboprosad Mukherjee, Srabanti Chatterjee in the lead roles was released in theatres on 9th May 2025.

The film follows the story of Animesh Goswami (Shiboprosad Mukherjee), a devoted son who tenderly cares for his ailing mother, Shubhra Goswami (Raakhee Gulzar). However, at the workplace, he reveals a starkly different side — a harsh, domineering boss whose toxic behavior deeply affects his employees.

Animesh is married to Shumi (Srabanti Chatterjee), but their demanding professional lives force them to maintain a long-distance relationship. The story takes a significant turn when Animesh’s mother, Shubhra (Raakhee Gulzar), decides to step out of her comfort zone by joining his office and starting a senior daycare center. What follows is a compelling exploration of how Animesh reacts to her unexpected decision and how it affects their mother-son bond.

What Worked?

The core idea of Aamar Boss is truly impressive, and credit goes to the director duo, Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, who consistently strive to remain relevant by bringing fresh, unique, and meaningful concepts to the screen.

Their ability to connect with the audience is one of the key reasons behind their strong fanbase — viewers who trust them not to disappoint. This trust is undoubtedly a driving force behind the film’s success.

According to an official update from Windows Production, Aamar Boss was watched by 1,01,000 viewers on its opening week. Raakhee Gulzar makes an impressive return to the big screen, delivering a heartfelt and convincing performance as Subhra Goswami, the mother of Animesh. Her presence is compelling, keeping the audience engaged every time she appears on screen.

The mother-son bond between Raakhee Gulzar and Shiboprosad Mukherjee stands out as one of the film’s key highlights — heartfelt and entirely convincing. Anupam Roy’s compositions and Prabuddha Banerjee’s evocative background score elevate the emotional depth of the narrative, with special mention to the beautifully rendered song Malachandan.

What Didn't Work?

While Shiboprosad Mukherjee delivers a decent performance as Animesh Goswami, the devoted son, his portrayal of a corporate boss doesn’t come across as entirely convincing.

Additionally, the on-screen chemistry between him and Srabanti Chatterjee feels underdeveloped, which weakens the emotional impact of their strained relationship during its low phase.

Kanchan Mullick and Sabitri Chatterjee delivered convincing performances in their respective roles. However, talented actors like Sauraseni Maitra, Shruti Das, Gourab Chatterjee, Avery Singha Roy, and Aishwarya Sen were not given enough scope within the script to fully showcase their potential.

As per the official National Plex Collection for the first week, Aamar Boss has earned approximately 70 lakhs — a commendable figure when compared to the performance of other Bengali films released in 2025.

Rating: 6/10
