Namastey London: Akshay Kumar Confirms Re-Release Date

Bollywood has been witnessing a trend of re-releasing films from the past to gauge audience response in today's cinematic landscape. Films that completed milestone years (10, 15, or 20 years) are being re-released in theaters to celebrate their legacy. 

Tumbbad (2018) and Sanam Teri Kasam (2016) are perfect examples of films that gained much-deserved recognition and success after their re-release, despite not meeting expectations at the box office during their initial run.

On 5th March 2025, Superstar Akshay Kumar took to his social media to share his excitement, announcing the re-release of Namastey London on the big screen this Holi, 14th March 2025. The film marked the 2nd collaboration between Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif after Humko Deewana Kar Gaye in 2006

Directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the film stars Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles and was initially released in theatres on 23rd March 2007. Rishi Kapoor, Nina Wadia, Upen Patel, Clive Standen, and Gurpreet Ghuggi appeared in crucial roles in this film.

The film marked director Vipul Amrutlal Shah's 3rd collaboration with Akshay Kumar after Aankhen and Waqt: The Race Against Time. The screenplay and story of this film were written by Suresh Nair, with dialogues penned by Ritesh Shah.

The cinematography of this film was handled by Jonathan Bloom and Dariusz Wolski, while Amitabh Shukla served as the editor. The film marked director Vipul Amrutlal Shah's maiden collaboration with Katrina Kaif, Rishi Kapoor, Upen Patel

The songs of Namastey London were composed by Himesh Reshammiya, while the background score was crafted by Salim-Sulaiman. The film was produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and distributed by Adlabs Films, Blockbuster Movie Entertainers, and Eros International.

The film was remade in Bengali as Paran Jai Jaliya Re, directed by Rabi Kinagi and starring Dev and Subhashree Ganguly. With a worldwide gross of over ₹71 crore, the film emerged as a massive box office hit, ranking as the 9th highest-grossing Hindi film of 2007 and solidifying its place among the year’s biggest successes.

Living in England, Manmohan Malhotra (Rishi Kapoor) is deeply rooted in his traditional beliefs. His daughter, Jasmeet aka Jazz (Katrina Kaif), is a modern Londoner who resists his conservative expectations. When she visits India with her parents, her father arranges her marriage to Arjun (Akshay Kumar), a straightforward Punjabi man. Though reluctant, Jazz goes through with the wedding and returns to London with Arjun. There, their journey unfolds as they struggle to bridge the vast gap between their contrasting worlds.
