K. Raghavendra Rao's directorial melodrama comedy film Tohfa completed 41 years. The film was produced by D. Rama Naidu under the banner of Suresh Productions.
The film, starring Jeetendra, Jaya Prada, and Sridevi in the lead roles, was released in theatres on 3rd February 1984. At the 32nd Filmfare Awards, the film received 3 nominations.

Tohfa was a remake of director K. Raghavendra Rao's Telugu blockbuster film Devatha (1982), featuring Sridevi and Jaya Prada reprising their roles, while Jeetendra took over Sobhan Babu's character.
Bappi Lahiri composed the music for this film marking his 4th collaboration with director K. Raghavendra Rao after Himmatwala, Jaani Dost, and Justice Chaudhury. K. S. Prakash handled the cinematography and K. A. Marthand edited this film.
Tohfa marked 6th collaboration between Jeetendra and director K. Raghavendra Rao after Farz Aur Kanoon, Himmatwala, Jaani Dost, Justice Chaudhury, and Nishana. Shakti Kapoor's dialogue "Aaoo Lalita" from this film gained popularity, and in 2017, he named his restaurant after it.
Tohfa was K. Raghavendra Rao's sixth Hindi directorial venture since his 1980 debut in Hindi cinema with Nishana, starring Jeetendra and Poonam Dhillon. With a box office collection of around Rs 13 crores, the film emerged as the highest-grossing Hindi film of 1984.
