Omorshongi Movie Review: Vikram Chatterjee's Powerful Presence Elevates This Romantic Drama

Dibya Chatterjee's directorial romantic drama film Omorshongi starring Vikram Chatterjee and Sohini Sarkar in the lead roles, was released in theatres on 31st January 2025.

Childhood friends turned lovers, Anurag (Vikram Chatterjee) and Joyee (Sohini Sarkar) are enjoying their new life together in their recently acquired flat. Their happiness is short-lived as Joyee tragically passes away from a heart attack just before their wedding. Yet, she reappears in Anurag’s life as a spirit, and the film unravels how her presence transforms his life.

Vikram Chatterjee’s portrayal of Anurag is the standout element of this romantic drama. Whether exuding the charm of a passionate lover or capturing the intensity of emotional turmoil, he delivers a compelling performance throughout.

Vikram Chatterjee’s script choices in recent years have been remarkable, showcasing his willingness to experiment with diverse genres and take on challenging roles. His performances in Shesh Pata, Shohorer Ushnotomo Din E, Pariah Vol 1, and Surjo stand as testaments to his evolving craft.

Vikram Chatterjee and Sohini Sarkar share an engaging on-screen chemistry, adding charm to the film. While their performances shine, a little more time dedicated to their relationship’s progression would have enriched the emotional depth.

Sohini Sarkar brings authenticity to Joyee with a performance that resonates. Dibyasha Das as Niharika delivers well in her role, while Shreema Bhattacherjee and Aniruddha Gupta provide solid support, making their presence felt in crucial moments.

With Abhimanyu Sengupta’s striking cinematography and Neel Adhikari’s evocative music, the film gains both visual richness and emotional resonance, making their contributions integral to its impact.

Amir Mondal’s editing could have been sharper, as the film feels stretched when a tighter runtime of around two hours would have been ideal. The sluggish pacing in certain portions might test the patience of the audience.

The inclusion of Ankush Hazra, Tathagata Mukherjee, Madhumita Sarcar, Anuradha Mukherjee, and Angana Roy’s cameos feels organic and, at times, adds subtle depth to the narrative.

One of the film’s enjoyable segments is the conversation scene featuring Ankush Hazra, Sohini Sarkar, and Vikram Chatterjee, which injects lighthearted humor into the narrative.

Rating: 6/10
