Hero No 1: Govinda and Karisma Kapoor Starring Film Completed 28 Years

David Dhawan's directorial romantic comedy film Hero No. 1 completed 28 years. Vashu Bhagnani produced the film under his banner, Puja Films, while S K Enterprise haslingden LTD handled its distribution.

The film, starring Govinda and Karisma Kapoor in the lead roles, was released in theatres on 21st February 1997. The majority of the film's storyline draws inspiration from Bawarchi, a classic comedy directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee.

Kader Khan, Paresh Rawal, Himani Shivpuri, Tiku Talsania, Rita Bhaduri, Anil Dhawan, and Satish Shah appeared in crucial roles in this film. The film marked director David Dhawan's 6th collaboration with Karisma Kapoor after Coolie No 1, Saajan Chale Sasural, Raja Babu,  Andaz, and Judwaa.

The Telugu remake of Hero No. 1 was titled Goppinti Alludu, featuring Nandamuri Balakrishna, Simran, Sanghavi, and Sadhika in key roles, with direction by E.V.V. Satyanarayana.

Anand-Milind composed the music for this film marking their 8th collaboration with director David Dhawan after Swarg, Bol Radha Bol, Raja Babu, Eena Meena Deeka, Coolie No 1, Loafer, Banarasi Babu.

K. S. Prakash Rao handled the Cinematography of this film marking his 3rd collaboration with director David Dhawan after Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi, Banarasi Babu. The film marked the 8th collaboration between Govinda and Karisma Kapoor after Muqabla, Prem Shakti, Raja Babu, Dulaara, Khuddar, Coolie No 1, and Saajan Chale Sasural.

Hero No. 1 marked the 21st directorial venture of David Dhawan since making his directorial debut in 1989 with the action film Taaqatwar starring Sanjay Dutt, Govinda, Anita Raj, and Neelam.

Rajesh Malhotra (Govinda), a wealthy businessman’s son, feels suffocated at home and escapes to Europe. Meena (Karishma Kapoor), a scholarship student, travels there with her aunt. Their paths cross, love blossoms, and their fate unfolds in the film.
