Rosshan Andrrews directorial action thriller film Deva was released in theatres on 31st January 2025. The film features Shahid Kapoor and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles, with Pavail Gulati, Pravesh Rana, Kubbra Sait, and Girish Kulkarni in supporting roles.
The story revolves around Deva Ambre (Shahid Kapoor), a fiery and charismatic cop, values friendship above all. When his childhood friend Rohan D’silva (Pavail Gulati) is murdered, his world shatters. As he uncovers the truth, a near-fatal accident erases his memory. Can he still solve the case?
Shahid Kapoor commands the screen as a fierce and unconventional cop, making his performance the heart of Deva. Shahid Kapoor’s intense actions and reactions are the film’s biggest highlights. His look and character presentation may evoke memories of his performances in Kabir Singh and Haider.
Pavail Gulati impresses as Rohan, while Pravesh Rana delivers a solid act as Farhan Khan. Jakes Bejoy’s background score amplifies the intensity, enhancing action sequences without overpowering the narrative.
The adaptation fails to retain the impact of Mumbai Police, with poorly developed characters and weak relationships that fail to engage the audience. Director Rosshan Andrrews’ biggest strength lies in showcasing Shahid Kapoor’s character effectively, keeping the audience engaged through his gripping performance.
Shahid Kapoor and Pooja Hegde’s on-screen chemistry feels weak. Even Pooja Hegde’s character’s emotional impact, due to the tragic family incident, falls flat. When comparing Mumbai Police with Deva, the only edge Deva has is Shahid Kapoor’s performance, which surpasses Prithviraj Sukumaran’s. However, in every other aspect, Mumbai Police remains far superior.
