Amar Prem: Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore Starring Film Completed 53 Years

Shakti Samanta's directorial romantic drama film Amar Prem completed 53 years. The film was produced by Shakti Samanta under the banner of Shakti Films.

The film, starring Sharmila Tagore, Rajesh Khanna, Vinod Mehra in the lead roles, was released in theatres on 28th January 1972. Abhi Bhattacharya, Satyendra Kapoor, Madan Puri, Sujit Kumar, Bindu, Farida Jalal, Om Prakash, Asit Sen appeared in crucial roles in this film.

Aloke Dasgupta handled the cinematography and Govind Dalwadi edited this film. Amar Prem is the remake of Director Arabinda Mukhopadhyay's action drama film Nishi Padma starring Uttam Kumar, Sabitri Chatterjee, Anup Kumar.

Arabinda Mukherjee has written the screenplay and Ramesh Pant has written the dialogues of this film. The film marked 3rd collaboration between Rajesh Khanna and director Shakti Samanta after Aradhana in 1969, Kati Patang in 1971.

The film marked 5th collaboration between Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore after Aradhana in 1969, Safar in 1970, Chhoti Bahu in 1971, Badnam Farishte in 1971. Rahul Dev Burman composed the music for this film marking his 2nd collaboration with director Shakti Samanta after Kati Patang in 1971.

The film marked 5th collaboration between Sharmila Tagore and director Shakti Samanta after Kashmir Ki Kali in 1964, Sawan Ki Ghata in 1966, An Evening in Paris in 1967, Aradhana in 1969.

At 20th Filmfare Awards, the film received 8 nominations and won 3 awards. Arabinda Mukherjee won the Filmfare Award for Best Screenplay, and Ramesh Pant won the award for Best Dialogue for the film Amar Prem, which features the iconic line 'Pushpa, I hate tears.
