Milkshake Murders Series Review: Saurav Das' Performance is the Only Saving Grace

Arnab Riingo Banerjee's directorial mystery thriller Milkshake Murders, starring Saurav Das, Trina Saha, Neel Bhattacharya, Joey Debroy, Tapasya Dasgupta, and Agnibha Banerjee, premiered on Klikk on July 19, 2024.

The story revolves around a writer, Bhaskar Mitra (Neel Bhattacharya), whose books are repeatedly rejected by a publishing house owned by Darshana (Trina Saha). Bhaskar meets another writer named Shadow (Saurav Das) in Thailand.

Shadow has written a book titled Milkshake Murders, which has been approved by Darshana without any revisions. Seeking honest feedback, Shadow invites Bhaskar to Coconut Island in Phuket, where he wrote the script. However, while Bhaskar is engrossed in reading, Shadow mysteriously disappears. The series unfolds as Bhaskar decides what to do with the script and how it changes his life.

Saurav Das, as Shadow, delivers a convincing performance, bringing an intriguing element to the story, particularly when he appears on screen. Although his screen time is limited, he portrays the character with conviction.

Trina Saha as Darshana is passable, while Neel Bhattacharya, who plays Bhaskar and has the most screen time, fails to make a significant impact due to poor dialogue delivery and expressions. Tapasya Dasgupta as Shobha and Joey Debroy as Manav Ray have minor roles that do not add much to the script.

The series starts slowly but gains momentum in the later episodes, particularly in the last two, which generate some interest. The storyline is promising, but the series falls short of expectations due to weak screenplay, character development, and execution.

The relationships between Bhaskar and Darshana, Shadow and Darshana, and Bhaskar and Shobha are not well-developed, lacking meaningful backstories. Subplots such as "Operation Falcon" and "Lashkar E Islamia" seem unnecessary and disconnected from the main plot.

The cinematography by Arnab Riingo Banerjee is commendable, capturing stunning shots in various locations in Phuket. However, the writing, direction, background score, and overall execution are subpar. Overall, Arnab Riingo Banerjee's Milkshake Murders is a one-time watch, primarily for its storyline, cinematography, and Saurav Das's performance.
