Dulal Dey's directorial mystery thriller Aranyar Prachin Probad, starring Jeetu Kamal, Suhotra Mukhopadhyay, Silajit Majumder, and Rafiath Rashid Mithila, was released in theaters on 5th July 2024.
The story revolves around CID officer Sudarshan Halder (Silajit Majumder), who has been assigned the task of resolving Dr. Amit Roy’s (Suhotra Mukhopadhyay) murder case within one month. He, along with his brother-in-law Aranya Chatterjee (Jeetu Kamal), goes to Panaghat to investigate the case. Sandip (Sayan Ghosh) has been assigned to assist Sudarshan in this investigation.
While visiting the village, Aranya hears Dr. Amit Roy's name everywhere due to his contributions to the people. This piques Aranya's curiosity about Dr. Amit Roy, so he reads the case file and starts investigating. Will Aranya and Sudarshan be able to find Dr. Amit Roy's killer?
Jeetu Kamal and Suhotra Mukhopadhyay’s top-notch performances are the major highlights of "Aranyar Prachin Probad." Jeetu Kamal gets maximum screen time and uses it perfectly. He shares good on-screen chemistry with Silajit Majumder, as most of their conversations seem meaningful.
Silajit Majumder, who recently impressed in "Ajogya," delivers a decent performance. However, his character writing is very poor. It never feels like he is performing his duty as a CID officer, and it seems he completely hands over his responsibilities to Aranya to solve the case.
Suhotra Mukhopadhyay as Dr. Amit Roy looks convincing. Again, the writing of his character is not up to the mark, and his chemistry with Rafiath Rashid Mithila does not look organic at all.
The major problem with "Aranyar Prachin Probad" lies in its screenplay. The film's attempt to interweave past and present events falls short, resulting in a disjointed narrative that hampers the overall viewing experience.
Another standout aspect of the film is Pratip Mukhopadhyay’s cinematography, which brilliantly captures the serene beauty of the village. Subhadeep Guha's music composition is decent, but the background score falls short of expectations. Additionally, the investigation part does not create any excitement or suspense, and most of the comedy scenes do not work well.
Ananya Banerjee does not have much to do in the script. Sayan Ghosh as Sandip provides a decent performance. Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee in the negative role looks okay, though Loknath Dey, who appeared in "Toofan," justifies his role here too.
Dulal Dey's directorial mystery thriller Aranyar Prachin Probad is good for a one-time watch due to Jeetu Kamal, Suhotra Mukhopadhyay, and Silajit Majumder's praiseworthy performances.
