On March 15th, 2024, Swabhumi Entertainment unveiled the official trailer for the upcoming film O Abhagi. Directed by Anirban Chakraborty, the film stars Rafiath Rashid Mithila, Subrata Dutta, Debjani Chatterjee, Ishaan Mazumder, Sayan Ghosh, Jiniya Pande, Krishno Banerjee, and Sourav Halder. Based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's short story "Abhagir Swargo", the film is set to hit theaters on March 29th, 2024.
The 2-and-a-half-minute trailer provides a glimpse into the plot, which revolves around Abhagi (Rafiath Rashid Mithila), who dreams of reaching heaven after her death, believing that receiving the last rituals from her own son's hands will grant her passage.
Abhagi, married to musician Rasik (Sayan Ghosh), finds herself abandoned when Rasik flees due to his multiple affairs. Meanwhile, Abhagi's son Kangali struggles to find employment due to discrimination based on his lower caste.
The trailer effectively portrays Abhagi's challenges as a single mother and her determination to fulfill her dreams. Rafiath Rashid Mithila delivers a convincing performance as Abhagi. Notably, the music composition by Mousumi Chatterjee and Pradyut Chatterjee's background score stands out as highlights of the trailer. The film marks Rafiath Rashid Mithila & Anirban Chakraborty's maiden collaboration. Subrata Dutta, Debjani Chatterjee, Ishaan Mazumder, & Sayan Ghosh also appeared in the trailer.
Director Anirban Chakraborty has adapted the screenplay, with Malay Mondal handling cinematography and Sujay Datta Ray editing the film. "O Abhagi" is produced by Dr. Prabir Bhaumik under the banner of Swabhumi Entertainment.
