Bholaa (2023) Review: Ajay Devgn, Tabu, and action sequences are top-notch

Bholaa (2023) Review: Story & Performances

Bholaa, directed by Ajay Devgn, is an official remake of the Tamil action thriller Kaithi, which was directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film, which was produced by T-Series Films, Ajay Devgn FFilms, Reliance Entertainment, and Dream Warrior Pictures, was released in theatres on March 30th, 2023. The movie stars Ajay Devgn, Amala Paul, Tabu, Vineet Kumar, Deepak Dobriyal, Kiran Kumar, Gajraj Rao, Tarun Gahlot, Arpit Ranka, Hirva Trivedi, Amir Khan, and Abhishek Bachchan.

The film tells the story of Bholaa (Ajay Devgn), who was sentenced to life imprisonment for a crime he committed in the past. After ten years, Bholaa is released from prison due to good behavior. He discovers that his daughter is at an orphanage in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and he is determined to meet her. Meanwhile, Inspector Diana Joseph (Tabu) plans to eliminate the Sikka Gang, led by Nithari (Vineet Kumar) and his younger brother Ashwathama aka Ashu (Deepak Dobriyal), with the help of an undercover officer, Abbas Ali aka Raunak (Tarun Gahlot). Will Diana Joseph succeed in her mission, and will Bholaa be able to meet his daughter?

If you are a fan of action movies, then Bholaa is a must-watch. This is Ajay Devgn's fourth directorial film after Runway 34, Shivaay, and U Me Aur Hum, and it is his best directorial effort to date. The action sequences in the film were very well choreographed by Ramazan Bulut and R P Yadav, who previously showed notable stunt choreography in Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. Ajay Devgn delivers an outstanding performance, and his action sequences will leave you wanting more.

Tabu's performance as Inspector Diana Joseph is fearless and stunning. Her conversations with Ajay Devgn and the way she handles the gangsters in the truck are amazing. Deepak Dobriyal delivers another brilliant performance in a negative role as Ashwathama. Ashu is brutal in a few scenes, which will scare you.

The collaboration between Ajay Devgn and Tabu is another highlight of this action thriller. Both actors were last seen together in Drishyam 2, which received positive reviews from critics and audiences. The music compositions by Ravi Basrur and the background music played a vital role in making this action thriller more engaging.

The supporting cast of the film, including Amala Paul, Sanjay Mishra, Arpit Ranka, Amir Khan, Hirva Trivedi, Kiran Kumar, and Gajraj Rao, also delivered good performances. However, some of them remained underutilized. Abhishek Bachchan's appearance as Chomu Singh in the climax was another attraction of the movie.

Overall, Bholaa is an entertaining action thriller with fantastic performances, well-choreographed action sequences, and great music. The screenplay could have been better, but the execution of the scenes at the Laalganj police station will keep you on the edge of your seat.

As per the update from Sacnilk, Bholaa has collected Rs 30.6 crores from 3 days of business in India. Ajay Devgn will be featured in upcoming films like Maidaan, Singham Again, and Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha.
