Vikram Vedha Movie Review: Story

The story begins with an encounter scene where the team of Special Task Force (STF) led by Vikram (Saif Ali Khan) shot a few gangsters. One of them had no weapon with him which means the STF team may face an inquiry if the seniors came to know about this, so they planned everything to make him counted among gangsters.

The Special Task Force team was formed to eliminate the most dangerous gangster Vedha(Hrithik Roshan) but the team is unable to reach him, so they are removing his gang members.

To everyone’s surprise, Vedha came to the police station to surrender himself. Now when the time has come to know his intent behind this and get other information Vedha did not speak a single word to anyone until Vikram comes for the interrogation.

Vedha convinces Vikram to tell a story and we were taken to the flashback where we see Babloo(Sharib Hashmi) telling children including Vedha’s brother young Shatak(Ishan Tripathi) & his friend Chanda(Drashti Bhanushali) how to escape from Police if they are caught.

To refrain Shatak from following Babloo, Vedha asked his brother why everyone in the school calls him Shatak, and to answer this he said the reason was his mark in Mathematics was 100 out of 100.

Vedha selected Vikram’s wife Priya (Radhika Apte) to fight his case and he was out on bail. After the death of Vikram’s best friend and colleague Abbas (Satyadeep Mishra) they decided to go for another encounter to eliminate Vedha but due to circumstances Vikram had to take him away from there and Vedha again started telling another story.

We see a grown-up Shatak(Rohit Saraf) trying to save his elder brother from other gangsters. A grown-up Chanda(Yogita Bihani) helps Vedha with first aid in his wounded areas.

Vedha succeeded in escaping this time from Vikram. Why did Vedha choose Vikram to tell his stories? Why he chose Priya to fight his case? Will Vikram be able to shoot Vedha in his next encounter?

Performances & Analysis

Vikram Vedha marks Hrithik Roshan’s comeback after 3 years of his last movie War which was a blockbuster movie & collected a record-breaking Rs. 53.35 crore on the first day and it was the highest-grossing Indian movie of 2019.

Vikram Vedha stands nowhere close to War's Box office collection as it has managed only Rs 10.50 crore on the first day’s business in India.

But this Hindi remake mainly stands out due to the execution and Pushkar & Gayathri’s brilliant storytelling as well as the power-packed performances by Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan. And I must say no one could have portrayed the character of Vedha better than Hrithik Roshan.

If you have watched the Tamil movie Vikram Vedha starring R. Madhavan & Vijay Sethupathi then you already know the story, yes the story adds nothing new to this Hindi remake of that 2017 film directed by Pushkar & Gayathri.

Apart from that the background score and songs of this movie left a good impression. This is also Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan’s second collaboration after director Arjun Sablok's romantic drama Na Tum Jaano Na Hum co-starring Esha Deol.

A little more focus on Rohit Saraf’s character could have made things better. Radhika Apte, Yogita Bihani, Sharib Hashmi, and Satyadeep Mishra have provided decent performances with their respective characters.

Though the performances of R. Madhavan & Vijay Sethupathi in the original version were also quite good the Hindi version has a slight advantage due to the action sequences, background score, and songs.

Final Words

Vikram Vedha is a must-watch action thriller for the power-packed performances by Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan and Pushkar & Gayathri’s brilliant storytelling.
