Naane Varuvean Movie Review: Story
The film begins with a scene where twin brothers Prabhu & Kathir are being asked by their mother to tell the truth. One of them has beaten a local child and their mother is unknown who has done this. After coming to know about the truth their father beats Kathir and tied him to a tree.
Before their father’s mind changes to bring him back home, a psychopathic killer kidnaps Kathir. But before he can kill Kathir, the little child was able to survive and kill that psychopathic killer. A grown-up Prabhu (Dhanush) is looking very happy about the arrival of their first child and they named her Sathya (Hiya Davey).
His colleague and friend Guna (Yogi Babu) often expresses his jealousy for being unable to lead a happy life like Prabhu. Prabhu’s wife Bhuvana (Indhuja) expresses her wish of having another baby as Sathya is 12 years now and after her marriage, they will feel her emptiness. Prabhu dismissed her thoughts saying he has been through this and they won’t go for another baby.
Soon Prabhu learned that after returning from the holiday Sathya is not behaving well and often talks to someone even though he found none in her room. They went to a Psychiatrist and came to know from Sathya what she is going through. Sathya informed them that a child named Sonu often talks to her & he is invisible to all except Sathya. Who is Sonu? What happened to Prabhu’s brother Kathir? Why Prabhu is afraid of taking another baby?
Performances & Analysis
The outstanding performance of Dhanush is certainly the best thing about Naane Varuvean. He has portrayed both characters quite beautifully. As Prabhu, he is a responsible, loving, and caring husband as well as a father, and as Kathir, he is a cold-blooded murderer. Prabhu’s character development was okay but Kathir’s character did not receive much focus and it raises many questions as in many parts it was unconvincing and logicless.
Yogi Babu as Guna and Indhuja Ravichandran as Bhuvana, and Prabhu as Psychiatrist looked okay but director Selvaraghavan failed to utilize these talented actors. Hiya Davey as Sathya and Elli AvRam as Kathir’s wife Madhuri delivered good performances.
Naane Varuvean marks the third successful collaboration between actor Dhanush and his brother director Selvaraghavan after Pudhupettai and Kaadhal Kondein.
The music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematography by Om Prakash, and editing by Bhuvan Srinivasan were okay in this horror thriller film.
Final Words
Considering the magnificent performance of Dhanush the horror thriller Naane Varuvean by director Selvaraghavan is good for a one-time watch.
