777 Charlie (2022) Kannada Movie Review: Story
The movie begins with a heartfelt message “If you are lucky a dog will come into your life, steal your heart and change everything”. In the opening scene, we see a Labrador who manages to escape from a cage of a cruel breeder and run as far as she can to save herself.
Dharma(Rakshit Shetty), a mechanic who works in a factory leads a boring lonely life. Due to a tragic past where he lost his parents and sister, he is somehow unable to connect himself with others in the colony.
Apart from going to the factory, his daily routine includes visiting a nearby shop for cigarettes and idli. The shop owner’s wife advises him to quit cigarette smoking and though Dharma instructs her to give two idlis she always adds one more which Dharma throws in the dustbin outside his house after eating two idlis.
One fine day that Labrador arrives in their colony and was waiting beside the dustbin outside Dharma’s house, when he throws the unused idli, the Labrador eats that one happily. This way a few days have gone and the Labrador used to follow him which he doesn’t like. But suddenly the Labrador got severely injured due to an accident with a bike.
To know how that one accident changed the life of Dharma as a person and his approach towards dogs we have to watch 777 Charlie.
Performances & Analysis
777 Charlie marks Rakshit Shetty’s return to the big screen after 3 years as his last movie Avane Srimannarayana was released in 2019. His career graph is moving up since the release of Ulidavaru Kanadanthe which was also his directorial debut movie.
His performance in 777 Charlie certainly stands among one of his career-best performances. He did the transformations quite brilliantly, from a rude & heartless person to someone, whose love and emotional attachment to Charlie will make you cry repeatedly. The best part of the movie is certainly the ability to keep the audience engaged throughout this beautiful relationship between Rakshit Shetty and the Labrador Charlie.
Sangeetha Sringeri looks convincing as Animal Welfare Officer Devika but I felt a bit more focus on her character would have been great for the story. I liked her performance very much in director Nagendra Prasad’s romantic comedy Lucky Man.
Bobby Simha’s cameo was a fantastic one and it makes a great impact on the progression of the story. Raj B. Shetty as Dr. Ashwin Kumar delivered a good performance. Also, the cute little girl Adhrika(Sharvari) delivers a noteworthy performance.
Director Kiranraj K. deserves a lot of appreciation for gifting us a film like 777 Charlie which will certainly let many people rethink their approach to animals. We might have already seen many such films where the bonding between humans and animals has been portrayed nicely, but 777 Charlie makes the difference by connecting you with the emotional scenes.
Pratheek Shetty’s editing, Nobin Paul’s music, & cinematography by Arvind S. Kashyap are other highlights of 777 Charlie.
Final Words:
777 Charlie is an adventure comedy-drama movie with Charlie & Rakshit Shetty’s magnificent performances and brilliant execution by Director Kiranraj K.
