Cuttputlli Movie Review: Story

Arjan Sethi (Akshay Kumar) is an aspiring thriller filmmaker who is doing research for the last 7 years to make a film on serial killers because he is more interested in those criminals’ psychology than their crimes.

He is meeting with various producers to tell his story to them but the suggestions from producers leave him frustrated every time. He went back to Kasauli to celebrate the Raksha Bandhan at his elder sister Seema Singh’s (Hrishitaa Bhatt) home.

She along with her husband Narinder Singh (Chandrachur Singh) requested Arjan to join the police force. After saying yes to their proposal he got a call from his friend who informed him that one of the producers has agreed to do the thriller film and they went to meet him. But at the last moment, the producer asked for a small change in the script which was denied by Arjan. Then he decided to join the police force without wasting time on the film.

As his niece Payal (Renaye Tejani) had low scores on the report card, she hadn’t the courage to get it signed by his father so he requested Arjan and he did. The next day he went to Payal’s school to drop her and she took him to meet her new teacher. He found the English teacher Divya(Rakul Preet Singh) and he fell for her at first sight. After coming to know about Payal’s lie Divya also falls in love with Arjan.

Just after Arjan’s joining, a serial killer was targeting teenage school girls and killing them brutally. Arjan did his research & provided some inputs to SHO Gudia Parmar (Sargun Mehta) but she ignored all those points initially. Later he was appointed to find out the serial killer. The rest of the story is about how Arjan uses his research and excellence to find out the killer.

Cuttputlli Movie Review: Performance & Analysis

Have you watched director Ram Kumar’s Tamil thriller Ratsasan starring Vishnu Vishal & Amala Paul? Cuttputlli is the frame-to-frame copy of Ratsasan. And it really does not add any extra elements to make this movie slightly different from the original one barring the cast.

It is always a treat to watch Akshay Kumar in a cop’s role and we got the chance in Cuttputlli after Sooryavanshi. The concerning part is none of Akshay Kumar’s movies in 2022 including Bachchhan Paandey, Samrat Prithviraj, and Raksha Bandhan have done good business at the Box-Office. Only Raksha Bandhan did perform average compared to the other two movies this year.

Cuttputlli is his 4th movie this year and that is also a remake of a Tamil Thriller. Considering his selection of movies in the last couple of years maybe he should sit and rethink the scripts before signing any new project going forward. Because if we compare the scripts he has worked on in the last couple of years with the kind of scripts he has worked on from 2017 to 2019 then we will get a clearer picture.

Rakul Preet Singh looked dazzling as Divya and did good justice to her character. Chandrachur Singh, Sargun Mehta, and Hrishitaa Bhatt provided good support with their respective characters. Rajeev Ravi’s cinematography and Chandan Arora’s editing looked okay.

Cuttputlli Movie Review: Final Words

If you have already watched Ratsasan then I don’t think you will be happy after watching Cuttputlli. The brilliant execution of Ratsasan by Ram Kumar is way better than Ranjit Tewari’s Cuttputlli.
