Cobra (2022) Review: Story, Performances & Analysis

The movie started with the introduction of Rajiv Rishi (Roshan Mathew) as a compassionate philanthropist in an event on the other side we saw people calling him a monster because due to his factory thousands of people have already died. He went for a conversation with the current CM to reopen his factory which was shut down by the order of the previous CM but the current CM also rejected his proposal.

Interpol officer Aslan (Irfan Pathan) came to know that the Interpol servers have been hacked and they are clueless about the hacker. Scotland’s Prince is getting married so the security system of the church is very tight yet the Prince was killed.

During a public meeting in Coimbatore, the chief minister of Orissa was killed but the Police have no clue about the killer. Aslan met with the investigating officer of the CM murder case Anand Subramaniam(John Vijay) to understand the progress.

A college student Judith Samson (Meenakshi Govindarajan) is considered the best Mathematician at the University by Criminology Professor Bhavana Menon(Srinidhi Shetty). Judith chose criminology as her main subject in the last semester. She has done her research on both assassination cases and found a link between Maths with these murders & prepared a thesis report titled Cobra.

Initially, Aslan ignored the theory of Judith Samson but after a thorough investigation, he found the theory relevant. Bhavana Menon loves Madhi (Vikram) who is a genius Mathematician but he doesn’t respond to her love. Madhi has a tragic past with his girlfriend Jennifer Rosario(Mirnalini Ravi) which haunts him even today. The rest of the story is about the investigation of these murder cases to find out the murderer.

Cobra is Chiyaan Vikram’s show with a powerful screen presence. The best thing about Chiyaan Vikram is his experimental nature with characters. The winner of multiple Filmfare always likes experimenting with different characters. His characters in movies like I, Iru Mugan, Mahaan, Saamy Square, Kasi, Raavanan, and Anniyan have raised the audience’s expectations every time from him.

Writer & Director R. Ajay Gnanamuthu did not provide much focus on developing the character of KGF fame Srinidhi Shetty. Vikram’s chemistry with Srinidhi Shetty is another area that deserved more focus. The twist in the story was good but the narrative looked more complicated in the second half due to poor writing.

Irfan Pathan made his debut with Cobra and looks okay as Interpol officer Aslan. Though the beginning of his film career does not seem as impressive as his cricket career, if he continues doing more films certainly the audience will expect better performances from him. Srinidhi Shetty as Criminology Professor Bhavana Menon delivered a decent performance.

Final Words

Though Cobra lacks an interesting plot to keep you hooked, Chiyaan Vikram shoulders this psychological action thriller with a brilliant performance.
