Chup-Revenge Of The Artist (2022) Hindi Movie Review: Story, Performances & Analysis

Inspector Arvind Mathur, played by Sunny Deol, is tasked with finding a serial killer who is targeting film critics and killing them in gruesome ways. Nila, an aspiring film critic and entertainment journalist played by Shreya Dhanwantry, visits Danny's flower shop to buy some flowers and meets florist Danny, played by Dulquer Salmaan. Danny offers Nila tulips and refuses to accept payment from her. As they continue to run into each other, their relationship grows stronger.

Arvind Mathur seeks the help of psychologist Zenobia Shroff, played by Pooja Bhatt, to solve the case. When all the film critics refuse to review films, Arvind turns to Nila to write a fake review for a popular movie in order to catch the serial killer.

Director R. Balki's storytelling in "Chup" is a rare treat. Unlike most psychological thrillers, he reveals the identity of the serial killer early on and keeps the story engaging through the cat-and-mouse chase between the police and the killer.

One of the most beautiful aspects of the film is the reference to the legendary filmmaker Guru Dutt and his iconic movies "Pyaasa" and "Kaagaz Ke Phool". The song "Waqt Ne Kiya Kya Sitam" sung by Geeta Dutt in the background when Danny gifts paper flowers to Nila is a highlight of the movie.

Dulquer Salmaan's portrayal of Danny is one of the finest performances of his career. He has a commanding screen presence and his intense looks and dialogue delivery are some of the strong points of his character.

Shreya Dhanwantry as Nila is a delight to watch, and her chemistry with Danny is excellent. She has been choosing challenging and experimental projects like "The Family Man" and "Scam 1992", which is commendable.

"Chup" marks Sunny Deol's return to the big screen after "Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas" in 2019, and he delivers a fantastic performance as Inspector Arvind Mathur. Pooja Bhatt and Saranya Ponnavanan also deliver decent performances in their respective roles.

Amitabh Bachchan's cameo is a standout moment when he emphasizes the importance of film critics for the growth of cinema.

Although the pace of the narrative slows down after the interval, and Dulquer Salmaan's expressions could have been better in a few scenes, the film's cinematography by Vishal Sinha, editing by Nayan H.K Bhadra, and music composition by Amit Trivedi, Sneha Khanwalkar, and S.D.Burman are all strong points.

In conclusion, "Chup: Revenge of the Artist" is a psychological thriller that is well worth your time and money. The film features brilliant storytelling and top-notch performances, making it a must-watch.
